Frequently...well, at least when I drink. I don't drink THAT often. I try to get rides when I can, though.

See you guys in hell. Maybe I'll take some of you down with me.

not that this has anything to do with me driving - my best friend and a another close friend were killed due to drunk driving when we were all 21.....that was pretty brutal.

Pretty much do it all the time, but its usually short distances anyway and go about it carefully, or at least try to.

Been arrested for this crap 3 times. Once as a 19 year old, then again at 22 and once more at 24...current age is 28 and just got this shit off my insurance to where rates are now reasonable again.

Spent 8 days in jail, total of 7 years probation, dimes worth of fines, (more than 5k) community service on early saturday mornings during cold winter months and hired a lawyer once also.

Shit ain't worth it anymore as they are throwing book at drunk drivers and making examples. Not to mention insurance rates.

I answered never. I got a DUI about 8 years ago. Said I'd not drink and drive again and since I kept drinking I just stopped driving. Twisted logic in a way, but maybe I saved a life in the process.

I answered never as well. In my college days, I was the usual designated driver. I would have a beer or two early in the night then nothing for hours so I'd be stone cold sober when it's time to drive my friends.

After college, I didn't frequent many bars but when some younger friends wanted to go out and I was in mood to drink, I *made* them decide which person would be driving (their car as well).

My problem with driving is that I actually can easily be a sleepyhead, so if that's "under the influence", I'm guilty of that.

Once, when I was 22, I plowed into a car parked on the shoulder of the highway right near my exit after driving one hour from 11pm to midnight back to home. My old car actually landed on its side and then returned back on its wheels and came to a stop near some light woods. I was very very lucky to get out of it with just scratches on my left arm from broken glass requiring stitches.

Guess that experience kinda made me very careful when it comes to alcohol, yet I still can get sleepy all too often these days, dammit.

first time never lost it, second time suspended for 6 months and the third it was suspended, but restricted to where I could drive to and from work only. so, 6-7 am and 330-430pm only, for 1 year.

the last two times I saw the same judge in the same city and he remembered me from before when he told me I better not be back here again..

7 days in a county clink about 2.5 hours north of me, out in 5.

paid a lwayer 1.5k for absolutely nothing. could have done the same thing for free.

Done it a few times back in the day but not now. Lots of times I had 12+ beers and some shots but never felt too drunk to drive minus once when I was at my worst. Wouldn't say I was driving horribly but I was definitely going from line to line in my lane. Not quite hazardous but the one time I really didn't feel comfortable driving.

Gave that stupid shit up long ago. No tickets, no wrecks, two pullovers. That's enough for me.

maybe the poll should be HAVE you ever driven under the influence.

I did when i was school. One time i was way to drunk to drive. But for the last 10 years or so i havent even come close. Too much to risk at this stage in my life.

Apparently, I do, because I will go to dinner and have 1-3 glasses of wine with the entire meal over a period of 1-1.5 hours...and this will get me into trouble with the 0-tolerance society of today.

Damn dude, and you still do? I think you lose your license for good in CA for the 3rd time and something like mandatory year in jail.

I used to all the time and not just around the corner either. Never got a DUI (knocking on wood) but rarely do it now. My wife usually drives if we go out to dinner and if we go out somewhere and get wasted we will cab home.

Both of my brothers in law have DUIs and a slew of friends. Two of our high school football coaches died in a drunk driving accident when I was a Jr or Sr. Been pulled over once and was completely wrecked. Went to dinner and Sharks game with a friend and had like 3 or 4 glasses of wine and about 6 or 8 beers. Got pulled over for having a tail light out, cop asked about drinking and I just said "No" but I was wrecked. Felt like I was slurring speech, guy went back to write the ticket and came back up asking again before giving me the tail light ticket. "you sure? do you have food in there?" kept saying no, finally he asks me to follow his finger and I somehow pass that test "ok, drive safely and get the tail light fixed."

Also had another time when I was in LA, driving down Sunset coming home from a Halloween party and was dressed up. WASTED, had about 3 beers and like 5 red party cups of vodka rocks. Stopped at a stop light, the light turns green and the guy in front of me doesn't go but I rear end him (light tap). I back up, he gets out of his car and comes back, roll down my window and apologize slurring. He gets pissed, goes to his car to call the cops, I just drop it in drive and go around him hauling ass down sunset (right in the heart, main part, super busy at like 11:30) and somehow make a left at a tough intersection and just get home. So f*ing scared, literally the dumbest thing I have ever done.

Just not worth it, both monetarily and from the damage you could do. I once heard the cost of 1 DUI over your life (increased insurance, fines, attorney fees, etc.) could get you something like 1200 $20 cab rides.

I do it going back from drinking down town or whatever when I can't find a ride or no one has any cash for a cab (which isn't that often at all). FSU has this thing called the Safe Bus you can call and it will come pick you up and take you anywhere on campus but I've been living off-campus for 2+ years. Some people post online where the license checks will be for the night so you just have to avoid them, but I don't drive if I can't act normal in front of a cop. I drive after smoking a little guillermo mota much more but that's pie. It takes long as fuck to get anywhere but it's as safe as can be.

Done it many times, no apologies. You may not believe this but I drive more like a maniac when I am sober. After a few drinks the only dangerous thing about my driving is me constantly looking for cops in the rear view mirror.

I said it before, but the truth is it's the lack of practice that makes drinking and driving dangerous.

I just don't see how most us can answer "never."

Everytime you go to dinner, concerts, sporting events, parties, happy hours, sports bars, etc., you guys can honestly say that you always either abstain from having more than 2 regular-size drinks or you never drive?

I admire your common sense and discipline, but I am skeptical.
