Jeff Weaver parlayed post season success and brief stint in St Louis into a minimum of 8 million dollars before incentives to pitch in Seattle.

And these are the early results before today.

And lit up again today, although he did shave his era down to 15.35 and only allowed 12 baserunners thru 5.2/3 innings.

The Mariners have made some horrific free agent signings in recent years, this one will only cost them just one season, Weaver will once again be looking for a new team in '08.

In other Mariners notes, Adrian Beltre hit his 48th career homer for Seattle, that matches his 48 homer season the year before he arrived with the Dodgers....it only took him two years and a month to equal the one year output in L.A.

Beltre 2004 48 HR , 598 AB in LA

Beltre 2005- 2006- 2007 48 HR 1318 AB for SEA :think2:

Hargrove just watched the self-destruction in the 6th inning. Instead of stopping the bleeding with that walk for a run, he leaves him in there to get crushed. It really looked like he wanted him out of the rotation.

I equate this to someone going out and signing that fat son of a gun Sidney Ponson, what a waste of 8 million dollars....atleast Weaver appears to be in shape.

These GMs giving millions away to Jaret Wright and Ponson and Weaver should be fired....SOMEONE is always stupid enough to sign these guys.

One thing you can't take away though, SOMEHOW Jeff WEAVER caught fire and helped that very average Cards team win a WS.

Weaver is a joke...

I was of the thinking that he would have been better off staying in StLouis and taking that two year deal...continuing to work w/Duncan...

Now I do not think it matters. He just plain sucks.

I think the M's will designate him for assignment at some point...cannot let this continue if they want to contend.

crazy to think he was one of the best young pitchers in the majors when he was with detroit. he used to be a great bet as a "+ money" underdog when the tigers were a lame team.

Vicente Padilla is 0-4 and pitching tonight...Texas is 0-6 in his starts to date.

That fat toad is the human rain delay. He needs to be taken out back and shot, at least then the Rangers will no longer have a theif on their team.

weaver didn't look half bad today.
He did indeed, tired in the late innings though.
Wang was magnificent.
Had the under in my first 'shot their load' game of the year.
I always like the under in a day game after a night game when a gazillion runs are scored.

Seattle is good at this stuff. See Adrian Beltre

They like to overpay on hype, not substance.

They let Griffey and Arod go because of money, then blow huge money on the hype. Someone should lose their job.

Weaver looked great through 5 innings.
He gave up 5 hits in the 1st inning. but 2 of were
1st baseman diving play towards second and Weaver not covering 1st in time thinking play was at 2nd.
A bunt down Weaver fielded on 3rd base side and 3rd baseman out of position.

I don't remember but think there was another infield hit in the 6th before anyone had scored.

He was in a Jam in 6th was ahead I think 1-2 in the count when a pitch got away from him and he beaned in a run.

After that he should of been taken out somewhere before he got lit up for all those runs.

It was not a horrible outing at all, infact a very good one, other than that 6th inning.

Release him, so the Cardinals can pick him up and turn him to gold again. I know one thing, he'll always be a World Champion! :dancefool

Illini...

Kip Wells is this years version of Sidney Ponson...

Strange how Duncan can work miracles on guys like Kent Bottenfield, Weaver, and Looper...

But could not get Ponson or Wells fixed.

A little too early to come to that conclusion, but I'll admit that it doesn't look good right now. Ponson started off solid last year, but I think the fact that he doesn't take care of himself ultimately did in his season and his career.
