My wifes car is on the blink. She was driving home and said when she comes to a stop, it starts rumbling and almost shuts off. It runs fine as long as she is going down the road. So when she gets home, I go crank the car up, it idles fine in park, when I put it in gear, the same thing, it starts to almost choke down, and wants to shut off. I put it back in park and its fine. Anyone have this problem before?

my personal opinion is you have a bad plug wire or a vacuum leak.if check engine light was on i would say 02 sensor.also could be throttle body needs cleaning.

have had these problems many times.and those are the same symptoms one thing for sure make sure you take it to a mechanic you can trust.

Much more likely to be one of these problems rather than the transmission

Thanks for the ideas guys. I was hoping it wasn't the transmission. Its like the engine just revs down when its in gear. It has to be some type of sensor problem.

Most cars have a input transmission sensor and output transmission sensor check with your auto parts store ..

I agree. I don't think the transmission is going.

Just go to auto zone or your local parts dealer and for free they will do a test to read the computer. If you do a little research on the web you can find out how to read the codes just by turning the iginition.

For instance,,,,one of my work trucks had and issue and I researched it and I had to turn the key to on postion and off 3 times and then wait for how many time the check engine light came on. It would flash X times, pause, flash Xtimes and turn off. It tells you how to read the code and what sensor might be out if you cannot take it to a parts store for free analysis.

Good luck..

Exactly what went out in my car a year ago. I thought my transmission went out by it was the sensors.
