I would have to say so .

You have Ruth , Mays and Bonds .. Then everyone else..

Even if he hadnt juiced , I would think he would have around 700 home runs, if not 756 ..

Pretty bold statement...Aside from his ridiculous 73 homer season Bonds never hit 50 in any other year, of course he was walked 200 times a year in a couple years ...

I gotta believe he would have reached atleast 575 and maybe 625, no way he reaches Aaron though without them IMO.

I would go as far as saying....if he were a 'nice' guy in the eyes of the public, then he would be recognized as on the best ever.

A lot of the public's negative thoughts about Barry- is because of his abrasive attitude in interviews...a comes off a anti-fan type of player. If he had a Ernie Banks type of attitude while playing the game...Barry would still take some heat, but not near as the much he receives now.

I honestly beleive this.

Complete honest answer coming from a person who totally dislikes Barry?!

Yes, if we are devoid of roid talk / rumors / facts / or whatever, I have to say he was the best hitter to have played.

But, I'm not so sure that if I could have my pick out of all the greats in their prime, that I would go with him. His defense hasnt exactly looked sharp when he started to juice.

Barry Bonds is the best player in the history of baseball.

Lets just say for the sake of saying so that Bonds started taking roids in the year 2001 which seems to be the timeline that most agree on.

I can make a strong case that Barry Bonds was a better baseball player between 1991 and 1999 then he has been from 2000 to 2007.

Everyone loves the glory of the homerun, but before the year 2000, Bonds was a 5 tool player. Now he is only a 2 tool player.

BARRY BONDS was the best player in baseball before he ever took his first drug.

Give me a break. Great, yes. But to say he would be flirting with Hank's record without the juice, no way.

And Journey eluded to it above , the 73 HR season gave him a MAJOR burst with his trying to claim the all time record. And as of now, looks like he will barely get there, juice and tired legs and all.

When it's all said and done, A-Rod will be considered the best of this generation, NOT Bonds.

As a guy born to not like the Yankees, going to be honest and agree with you.

I really think that stat wise A-Rod will end up being the greatest ever and as you say, 'of this generation'.

And if Ken Griffey didnt end up having so much down time, it would have been him.

BillHill, you have had some great posts regarding baseball lately BTW.

Nobody ever mentions all the juiced pitchers he hit HRs against, not the specialty pitchers he has to face as opposed to the players from the previous era of facing the starting pitcher almost all game

Impossible to compare different eras. More teams, smaller ballparks, lowered mound.
