It was an unusually perfect night for the top group of the Play Sheet. And I do mean perfect. Not a single loss for anyone in the top group. Six of the tens services that currently reside in the top group were active. Collectively they went 7~0 on the night.
<o:p></o:p>
The opportunity to track Ben Eckstein plays has been rare so far this baseball season, but the plays that Bookie Buster has been able to locate have been gems. But despite having a high winning percentage from day one, Ben Eckstein lacked the 10-tracked play minimum requirement to be top group eligible on the Play Sheet. That requirement was finally fulfilled last Friday with a typical 1~0 outing and then surpassed last night with…..yep…..another 1~0 performance. Now 9~2 (82%), slow but steady, Ben Eckstein now finds himself tied for first place with Michael Cannon (15* to 20* Plays).
<o:p></o:p>
Another person who’s climbing the rankings, Stan Sharp, went 1~0 last night to follow up a 3~0 mark the day before that. Sharp’s overall record is now 19~7 (73%) for the season.
<o:p></o:p>
The rest of the top group: Brandon Lang went 1~0, improving to 11~4 (70%); Wunderdog went 1~0, improving to 14~6 (70%); Big Al had the best night, going 2~0, improving to 19~9 (68%) and Larry Ness also went 1~0, improving to 25~13 (66%).
<o:p></o:p>
FYI: Larry Ness was in a real funk, beginning on April 24th and ending on April 30th, but since that time he is a combined 7~2 over the last seven nights. His winning percentage really took a beating during that losing streak, but he’s red hot again. Buyer Beware: According to fellow RXer Calvin, Larry Ness is notoriously streaky. So if you tail, be prepared to start and stop if can recognize his transitions.
<o:p></o:p>
Service FADE Spreadsheet Notes
<o:p></o:p>
Nothing meaningful at all to report for the Fade Sheet. Only two of the top (or worst) sixteen services had plays available for us to track. No real movement (obviously) among the Fade Sheet occupants.

BIG AL'S PAID PLAY

At 8:10 pm our AL Total of the Week is on the Oakland Athletics and Kansas City Royals 'under' the total. Two of the lightest hitting teams in the AL will square off in this one. And that was before the Oakland A's were hit with their latest injuries. They are so injured right now, that you could field two complete outfields with the players they have on the DL (Shannon Stewart, Travis Buck, Bobby Kielty, Milton Bradley, Mark Kotsay, and Chris Denorfia). The latest addition is DH Mike Piazza who just went on the DL with a shoulder injury. And this game will be played in a pitcher's park and each team will be starting one of their hottest young starters. For the Royals, that would be Jorge De La Rosa, who has come out of nowhere to be one of the best young lefties in the AL this season. It would be tough enough for the walking wounded A's if this were being played in Oakland, but consider that De La Rosa has all three of his wins in KC (3-0) with a ridiculous ERA of 0.82. Not to be outdone, Oakland is starting 24 year-old righthander Chad Gaudin who has been sensational as well. It's a tribute to the A's pitching (especially that of their relievers) that with all these injuries, they are still a .500 team at 15-15. In fact the A's have just overtaken the Red Sox as the team with the best pitching in the American League with an overall ERA of 3.14. Take the 'under'. As always, good luck...Al McMordie.

Larry Ness' 15* NL Game of the Week (now 25-6 w/15* GOW plays in '07!)
My 15* play is on the Az D'backs at 9:40 ET. The D'backs have been MLB's streakiest team in 2007. They had an early six-game winning streak and then on April 19, had a five-game slide. They rebounded to end that streak on the 25th, winning six straight to end the month. The D'backs then opened May by losing five straight but have now won their last two. Tonight's opponent, the Phillies, got off to another slow start and even though they've played better lately, still enter at just 14-18 after losing in Arizona last night. Ryan Howard, last year's MVP with 58 HRs, 149 RBI and a .313 BA, is being held out of the starting lineup until Friday, when the team returns home. He's hitting just .198 with five homers in 2007 and manager Charlie Manuel plans to rest him for the remainder of this series to give his ailing left leg time to heal. Starting for the Phillies is Adam Eaton. He's 3-2, 8.18 after getting a win in his last start despite allowing six runs in five innings on Thursday. The right-hander, who signed a 3-year, $24.5 million deal with the Phillies in the off-season, has allowed 21 runs in 21.1 innings over his last four starts and owns the worst ERA in the majors among qualifying pitchers! How about that for a shrewd investment? Arizona goes with rookie Micah Owings, who made three early starts (2.93) before going on the DL with a hamstring problem. He returned to the mound last Thursday vs the Mets and looked just fine, allowing three ERs in six innings. With no Howard and the struggling Eaton on the hill, I expect Arizona to win again tonight. NL Game of the Week 15* Az D'backs.

Larry Ness' Oddsmaker's Error-MLB (10-3 run the last eight days!)
My Oddsmaker's Error is on the LA Dodgers at 7:05 ET. The Marlins were averaging a league-high 5.6 RPG before running into Jake Peavy and Brad Penny the last two days. They've been held to two runs and eight hits in those games, striking out 26 times! In fact, the team has struck out an amazing 55 times over the last five games, while losing four times. While tonight's opposing starter, Mark Hendrickson is no Peavy or Penny, he has more than a few things going for him. He's made six appearances in 2007 for LA, allowing just four ERs in 27.2 innings (1.30 ERA) and 14 hits. His last three appearances have been as a starter and he's 2-0 (team has won all three), while he's posted a 1.10 ERA! Not only are the Dodgers a solid 11-6 on the road TY but they beat the Marlins in five of six meetin s last year, before winning last night 6-1! Also note that Hendrickson is a 6-9 lefty and that the Marlins not only went 20-28 vs lefties last year but they've opened 2-6 vs left-handed starters in '07! The Marlins will counter with Wes Obermueller, making just his third start of 2007. Obermueller did not pitch in the majors last year and the in the three previous seasons (with Milwaukee from 2003-05), made 61 appearances (40 starts) with a 9-17 mark and a 5.38 ERA. This price is WAY too low! Oddsmaker's Error on the LA Dodgers.

The Wunderdog
Game: Seattle at Detroit (7:00 PM Eastern)
Pick: Detroit -201

Everyone was wondering if the Tigers were going to be a one year wonder and it looks like they have answered that question by running off seven-straight wins. They have picked up the offense and have now scored 26 runs in their last three games and facing Horacio Ramirez, today, should not impede this barrage of hitting. Ramirez has really struggled. His ERA of 6.64 is a product of not finding the zone. He is constantly behind in the count and it has led to 32 hits in 20 innings and 14 BB's to go along with it - certainly not a recipe for success against a hot lineup. Bonderman has pitched well, but has not been given the run support, but this is a place he should get plenty to notch his second win.

Marc Lawrence
Indians at Angels
Prediction: Indians
The Indians take their red-hot sticks to the West Coast for a three-game set with the Angles. The Tribe has scored more than four runs in 10 of its last 13 games. With Ervin Santana (2-4, 5.50 ERA) winless lifetime with a sky-high 14.55 career ERA against Cleveland, we'll back the Indians here tonight.

Nice Tuesday night pitching matchup at Wrigley as the Pirates face the Cubs. Pittsburgh's Ian Snell has enjoyed a stellar start to the season and Ted Lilly has been close to lights out for the Cubs. But Snell has had some control issues of late and those free passes are eventually going to lead to trouble. Lilly is making hitters earn their way on with a spectacular 38/6 K/BB ratio to date. Those numbers indicate to me Lilly is a decent bet to outpitch Snell, so the Cubs are the choice.

My free pick of the day is the game between (951) LA Dodgers and (952) FLA Marlins. Take "(951) LA Dodgers". The Dodgers continue to play well on the road, starting 10-6. Lefty Mark Hendrickson has pitched great, with a 1.30 ERA and a 2-0 mark. Florida trots out retread starter Wes Obermueller, who had trouble with control while with the Brewers and that problem still haunts him: 7 walks in 14 innings with the Marlins. Florida has a losing home record and is 2-4 in its last 6 series at home. Play the Dodgers!

ROYALS (With De La Rosa as listed pitcher)
Take the Royals at home over the A’s at a near even price.
Jorge De La Rosa gets the start for Kansas City tonight and he has been a nice surprise this year. The left-hander has always had good stuff, but could never put together any consistency because of his erratic control.
He has turned that around this year, as evidenced by only seven walks allowed in 40 innings. When he’s able to pound the strike zone, he’s as tough a pitcher to hit as anyone in the league.
The A’s because of who they are will keep this price low for Royals backers, and we are going to take advantage as a result.
Take Kansas City for the home win at the near even price.

HOME TEAM IN CAPS

All games are listed pitchers unless stated otherwise.

Los Angeles –1½ +1.28 over FLORIDA

In all the years we’ve been listening to Vin Scully we’ve never seen a Dodger team with an offense like the one they possess this season. From top to bottom the Dodgers offense is one of the most prolific in the business. Russell Martin behind the plate is a true gamer in every sense of the word. If you’re ever watching a Dodger game with your kid, point to Russell Martin and say," See that guy?, that’s the way you should play baseball. Anyway, Mark Hendrickson seems to get better with age, as he just goes about his job and this year he’s as efficient as ever. Hendrickson has made three starts and he’s pitched into the sixth inning in two of them and pitched a full five in the other one. He’s yet to allow more then a single earned run in any of his starts and has not allowed a homerun in 24 straight innings. Lastly, the Marlins have hit a wall offensively and when major league teams begin to press it can last for days and days. Play Los Angeles –1½ +1.28 (Risking 2 units).

Colorado +1.24 over ST. LOUIS Let’s take you to the top of the ninth inning in last night’s Rockies/Cardinals game. The situation is Colorado has men on first and second, two out and Garrett Atkins (.263 hitter) is at the plate with Brad Hawpe on deck (265 hitter). The score is 2-2 and Tyler Johnson is pitching for the Cardinals and on a 1-1 count he throws a ball to make the count 2-1. Ok, here’s where it gets interesting. After ball 2, LaRussa comes to the top of the dugout and orders an intentional walk to load them up. That’s right folks, there were two outs with first and second occupied. The next batter, Hawpe, walked and the Rockies won 3-2. Hold on, it gets worse. Bottom of the ninth, Fuentes, the Rockies closer is in and naturally he hits Taguchi to lead off the inning. After he gets Pujols, Fuentes then hits Rolen also to put men on first and second with one out. Ryan Ludwik and Jim Edmonds are the scheduled hitters and with Ludwick up that genius LaRussa sends Taguchi to steal third (Taguchi did not have a stolen base all year). He was called safe but trust me, he was out. The Cards did not score anyway but had he been correctly called out it would have been two out with a man on first instead of the current situation of first and second one out. The points is the Cardinals are pressing way too hard, they’re losing and they’re a bit panicked. Tony LaRussa is still the worst manager in the league and you can double that when he’s drunk. Furthermore, the Cardinals are sending a lifetime reliever turned starter, Brad Thompson to the mound. Give us a price against the Cardinals whenever anybody not named Carpenter is on the hill and we’re in. Play: Colorado +1.24 (Risking 2 units).

Philadelphia +1.04 over ARIZONA

The Phillies lost last night but that’s not going to deter us from coming back on them tonight. For one, the Phillies will be facing a rookie pitcher named Micah Owings, who started the year in the rotation before a minor injury that sidelined him for about 10 days or two starts. Owings has looked decent thus far but certainly not dominating and the offense he’ll face here is second to nobody. Adam Eaton has looked putrid so far but that’ll change, as Eaton has some of the nastiest stuff in the business. If he can get through an inning or two unscathed it’ll likely propel him to a very decent outing. Once again, we’re going to lean to the Phillies offense over the Snakes and any tag here has to be considered a gift. Play: Philadelphia +1.04 (Risking 2 units).

DETROIT –1½ +1.08 over Seattle

Outside of scoring 15 times in the opener against the Yanks, the Mariners then proceeded to score just four times in the remaining three games against a staff that is as brutal as any in the past 15 years. Now the Mariners will go onto Detroit to face the ever-reliable Jeremy Bonderman and the red-hot Tigers. The Tigers have won seven straight and they’re seeing beach balls at the moment. In its most recent series, Detroit pounded out 41 hits and outscored Kansas City 26-12 over the weekend. The Tigers are 6-2 against southpaws and will face one here in Hector Ramirez. In four starts including two at pitcher friendly Safeco, the opposition is hitting .360 against him. He’s been tagged for 32 hits and he’s walked 14 in just 20 innings of work to go along with an ERA of 6.64. Ramirez is 2-1 on the year, which is just another indication of how misleading W/L records truly are. Play: Detroit –1½ +1.08 (Risking 2 units).

Rockies at Cardinals

Prediction: Rockies

With the Cardinals in an unbelievable cold funk from the plate, RHP Taylor Buchholz (1-1, 8.04 ERA) ought to be enough to vault the Rockies to another win at Busch Stadium. Jim Edmonds and Albert Pujols are mired in the worst slumps at the plate in their careers - at the same time! The Cards are plating just 3.06 runs per game at home against righties. It's hard to believe this lineup has scored three runs or fewer in each of its last nine games. The news isn't any better from the mound. With news about ace Chris Carpenter (right elbow) going from bad to worse, St. Louis manager Tony LaRussa has been forced to install right-handed reliever Brad Thompson as today's starter. He'll be on about a 50-pitch count. Besides the tragedy off the field, it's been a nightmare five weeks for the defending champs between the baselines. The nightmare continues tonight.

We'll back the Rockies on Tuesday.

There should be a plethora of runs put up on the scoreboard tonight in Camden Yards. The O’s send a reliever to the hill to get his first start of the season this evening in Jeremy Gutherie. Gutherie, acquired from Cleveland in the off-season, is making just his 7th appearance overall this season, his first in a starting role. His ERA is nothing to write home about at 5.87. To make matters worse, he is facing a very potent lineup tonight in the Tamp Bay Devil Rays. The Rays are ranked 13th in the majors in runs scored per game and rank in the top 20 in team batting average. Not less than a month ago they led the majors in both categories. The Birds are not far behind offensively and tonight they face a dismal hurler in Jae Seo. Quite frankly we cannot see why this guy is not in the minors or pitching for my city league softball team for that matter. He has an ERA of 8.19 this season. Last season it was a robust 5.23 and the season before it was up there again above 5. This should be a run scoring fest. Camden fans get ready for plenty of action tonight. Take the over here, it cannot be posted high enough.

Cleveland Indians (19-10) at Los Angeles Angels (17-15)
(L) Cliff Lee (0-0) vs. (R) Ervin Santana (2-4)

Cleveland sends Cliff Lee to the mound. The left-hander makes his second start of the season. Lee allowed five runs and nine hits over six innings last Wednesday, a 6-5 win against Toronto. He is 3-3 with a 4.15 ERA in six career starts against the Angels. Los Angeles counters with Ervin Santana. The right-hander allowed three runs and 11 hits over 6 1/3 innings in a 3-1 loss at Kansas City last Wednesday. Santana is 0-3 with a 13.50 ERA in three career starts against Cleveland.

Cleveland has won four of the last five games versus Los Angeles at Angel Stadium with the total going over in all five. Expect a high scoring contest. The total has gone over in six of the Indians last 7 and four of Lee's last 5 starts against Los Angeles.

Oddsmakers:
Opening line has Los Angeles as a -115 home favorite with the total listed at 9 'over'.

Wunderdog

Game: Seattle at Detroit (7:00 PM Eastern)
Pick: 4 units on Detroit -201 (risk 4 to win 2)

Game: Washington at Milwaukee (8:00 PM Eastern)
Pick: 4 units on Milwaukee -213 (risk 4 to win 1.9)

What can we say about the Brewers, we have picked our spots with them and they just keep coming up a winner. Dave Bush has been a puzzle. He pitches very well then for some reason gives up the big inning. I'm sure he will be on a short leash here tonight. The Brewers have won four straight and just keep finding ways to win while the Nationals just keep finding ways to lose. They have dropped six-straight games and have been shutout twice and produced just 13 runs. Jason Simontacchi gets the ball for the Nationals tonight. Things have gotten so desperate for the Nats, they are now starting a pitcher that hasn't started a big league game since 2003, and last year was playing for Bridgeport in the independent league. We look for the Brewers to make it five straight here tonight.

Game: Chicago White Sox at Minnesota (8:10 PM Eastern)
Pick: 4 units on Minnesota -111 (risk 4 to win 3.6)

Javier Vasquez has not been the same pitcher he was for Montreal, pitching consistently to an ERA in the 3's. He has been a lot closer to five since and after a good start has faltered once again with his ERA standing at 5.59 in his last three starts. He has fared even worse vs. Minnesota, as he is just 2-5 with a 5.73 ERA lifetime against the Twins. The Twins have some big numbers vs. him and with Boof Bonser starting to look like the prospect he was touted to be, the Twins at virtually even money at home presents a lot of value. Bonser has pitched to a 2.25 ERA over his last three starts and provides an opportunity to help the Twins open this series with a win.

Gina's

Pittsburgh Pirates (13-17) at Chicago Cubs (15-14)
(R) Ian Snell (2-2) vs. (L) Ted Lilly (2-2)

Pittsburgh's right-hander Ian Snell (2-2, 2.31) allowed four runs and four walks over five innings in a 7-1 lost to Chicago last Wednesday. Snell is 1-3 with an 8.31 ERA in four career starts against the Cubs.

Chicago's left-hander Ted Lilly (2-2, 2.82) allowed five runs on nine hits, but did not get a decision in a 8-6 win at Pittsburgh in his first start against Pirates last Tuesday.

Pittsburgh has won seven of their last 10 games versus the Cubs and seven of their last 11 games at Wrigley Field, but the Pirates are struggling, they have lost seven of nine and dropped seven of their last 9 road games. Go with the hot Cubs to grab their sixth straight victory.

Chicago Cubs - 155

400* RED SOX RUN LINE (LIST Beckett and Zambrano) - Who needs Roger Clemens anyway?

Not the 20-10 Red Sox, who for the second straight year lost out on ClemenStakes. So tonight, I expect them to come out and rumble to a huge win over the Jays behind the steady arm of Victor Zambrano.

The ace of the staff early on, Beckett will make it seven victories in as many starts as he makes his first appearance this season against Toronto.

This will be Beckett's third start on the road, where he is 2-0 with a 2.08 ERA, and opponents are hitting just .219 against him this season, as he's impressively limited the long ball. After allowing 36 homers last year, Beckett has given up a staggering one so far. The Sox have won nine of 12 on the road, with their pitching staff compiling a 2.31 ERA in that span.

The run support should be there, as this team has remained hot at the plate as well. Manny Ramirez is starting to heat up, as he brings a six-game hitting streak, in which he is 11-for-25 (.440) with three homers and six RBI.

Lay the -1-1/2 runs and bang these Red Sox.

100* DODGERS (LIST Hendrickson and Obermueller) - The Dodgers have won six of their last seven against the Marlins, including the last four in Miami.

Tonight, the domination continues with Mark Hendrickson toeing the rubber for us, as he's coming off six scoreless innings against Arizona, where he struck out seven. Opponents are batting just .159 against him. The big southpaw should dominate, as Florida is 2-7 against left-handed starting pitchers this year

Larry Ness' Bailout Blowout-MLB (10-3 last eight days in MLB!)

My Bailout Blowout is on the LA Angels at 10:05 ET. I hesitated at first with this play because the Indians have been hot, winners of 12 of their last 15, plus they are 16-4 this year vs right-handers. However, the Angels have been excellent at home in 2007, going 12-5 and have Ervin Santana on the mound. His success at home has been well-documented, as have his failures on the road. I'll cut to the chase and list the only stat that matters, his team's record in games he starts. Since joining the Angels in 2005, the team is 10-19 in his road starts and 25-10 when playing in Anaheim. In two home starts this year, he's 2-0 with a 1.93 ERA and over his last eight home starts, he's 6-0 with a 2.88 ERA. Cliff Lee starts for Cleveland and it's just his second start of '07, as he began the year on the DL with a pulled abdominal muscle. Lee went 50-24 from 2004-06 with the Indians and Cleveland was 59-39 in his starts but his ERA was a hardly spectacular, 4.50. In his first outing this year (at home vs Toronto last Thursday), he went six innings, allowing nine hits and five ERs. He's never been anything special against the Angels, posting a 3-3 mark in six career starts with a 4.15 ERA. Lee is hardly at "full speed" and the Angel's record in home games started by Santana speaks for itself. Bailout Blowout on the LA Angels

May 8, 2007 -- Hondo whisked his way to a sweep yesterday as he cashed with the Indians and Padres. Today, he'll go to the 'dogs with Zambrano and Vazquez. Ten units apiece on the Blue Jays and White Sox.

While some Yankee fans may be put off by Clemens' return, most are looking forward to getting an up-close look at Rawjah's Fifth Annual Touching Farewell Tour . . . Lucky for Rocket the Yanks gave him that Humvee as a parting gift for his first retire ment. Since he doesn't have to be with the team on days he doesn't pitch, he can hop in the Hummer and go off-roading

Thanks BB ~

Tonight should be interesting. I did not get a chance to cap anything today and when I came home (wife is working tonight) I noticed that no one reposted the service plays from your thread here. So in between getting supper ready, taking care of crying babies and etc., I have been reposting plays and trying to cap some games. LOL.

We'll see how this goes! I wish me GL also!

BoL to ALL tonight
