Key in that he bats clean-up for the W.S. champs and is supposed to be Pujol's protection.

His numbers have been in decline for years and have absolutely fallen off the cliff this year. No wonder the Cards can't get anything going. Mystery is why they haven't put him at the bottom of the order, or even better, on the bench, where he belongs. :think2:

The only other "key" player I can think of who is washed up to the level of Edmonds is Mariano Rivera. Tough to accept but the sandman is nowhere near where he was even 2 years ago...steady decline the past two seasons and now the preverbial "cliff"....No speed to his fastball..which makes his cutter ineffective..he's done.

Trevor Hoffman is done too. A's signed Piazza to be their DH and he is also done.

Pettitte, Mussina, Pavano - i.e., the entire Yankees staff. Randy Johnson, although Ariz stinks either way, but he was atrocious with NYY last year.

Pettitte is washed up? He is 2-1 with a 2.72 ERA and if not for two blown saves by MO, he would be 4-1. Pretty stupid thing to say.

While he may be a gutless piece of crap, I think the NYY opening day starter has to qualify as a "key player"

whoever posted about Pettitte is right. While I think he will end up tanking this year it is certainly too early to say he is done. I only say him pitch the Bos game and hsi first start and he was miserable. Didn't realize he had actually pitched well between those games.

edmonds has started to swing the bat the last week or so. thats not to say that he isn't washed up but he is coming off shoulder and ankle surgery. he only played a little more than a week of spring training so the first month was really his spring. don't get me wrong his numbers have gone down a little each year but there are other players that are less productive players piazza, and steve finley comes to mind not sure if they are key anymore. edmonds is still among the best with the glove.

Ray Durham, Mike Cameron, and Jim Edmonds are all about in the same boat.

Scott Spiezio is as bad as Edmonds and bats right behind him in the order. He's just another Matt Stairs, some over the hill caveman type way past his prime and way overdue for another 'roid shot. But oh, wait. They get caught nowadays so they can't shoot the juice. Duh.
