OK what IF YOU had a large amount of cash, say 30-40k and you wanted to pay off some debt, for instance student loans, house, whatever, and you didnt want to write a check out of your bank account because you only make about 40k a year.

Would you think it was OK to get money orders or cashiers checks and send to mortgage company?

Would you do it in increments? what size?

Would you do it at all?

Assume you found this money or came by it some other way.

don't pay down your mortgage, you can deduct that interest on your taxes.

student loans are low interest, just keep making payments on them.

start using cash for all your day to day expenses (gas, food)

with your ligit paycheck you can now:

pay down your Credit Cards and High interest loans a little each month.

MAX OUT your IRA/401k with your ligit earnings...

on paper it'll look like you're a hard saver.

also, that cash will loose some value over time, go to a coin shop, buy some gold or silver bullion, (rare coins ONLY if you know what you are doing) although I heard the government is cracking down on private metal exchanges....

cash is cash, I never ever ever ever put cash into a bank account... I keep it off the grid and use it to make all my small (and private) purchases.

if this is expendable cash that you are trying to keep out of the banks buy a good fireproof safe (500-1000 dollars) or a a bank safety deposit box....the govt can seize the safety deposit box if they needed to in the future...use this cash to buy everything in your daily life...gas, groceries, dinner etc...you can also buy some money orders (post office, grocery store) to pay your monthly payments on your car and mortgage..this way your whole paycheck is going into your bank account and you can invest it as you like...you may want to pay a few small bills with your bank account to show some transactions coming out of your bank account and not just going in...keep some cash around incase of a rainy day though..always nice to have a little set aside incase of a emergency

send it to your credit card companies and write checks from those accounts to the accounts you are paying off. You can have a credit balance with your credit cards and write checks from them without running up more debt
