That was so over yesterday and you get a NATIONAL pitcher throwing the best game of his life !!! THE MARLINS HAD NOT BEEN SHUT OUT IN OVER 27 GAMES VS MARLINS GO FIGURE I CANT . Well we are 24-16 and have $797 in bank . I AM GOING TO STAY WITH THE OVER 9.5 ON THESE 2 TEAMS . HISTORY ON OUR SIDE . WE RISK 110 TO WIN

Larry Ness' 15* TV Game of the Week (27-7 w/15* GOW plays since Opening Day!)

My 15* play is on the LA Angels at 3:45 ET. The Angels have outscored the Rangers 23-10 in winning all four matchups this season, including a 6-3 victory in Friday's series opener. Dating back to last season, the Angels have won five straight over Texas, their longest since taking eight in a row between 2005 and 2006. More good news come LA's way with Bartolo Colon on the mound (3-0, 3.46 ERA). He's won 11 straight starts against Texas since August 2003 when he was with the Chicago White Sox. During the longest active win streak by any AL pitcher over a single opponent, the right-hander has posted a 2.35 ERA with a .190 opponent batting average. Texas is off to a 14-21 start in 2007 and its team ERA of 5.01 is among the worst in the majors. Kameron Loe (1-2, 5.76) will start for Texas. In his last outing (Sunday), Loe allowed only one run and three hits in 6.2 innings in the Rangers' 3-2 win over Toronto. However, he had been rocked for 16 hits and 16 runs (13 earned) over 9.1 innings in his two previous starts. Loe is 2-3 with a 5.59 ERA in nine career games (five starts) against the Angels. He began the year in the bullpen and makes his fifth straight start here, but is no match for Colon. TV Game of the Week 15* LA Angels.

Larry Ness' Las Vegas Insider-MLB (over 62% last two seasons!)

My Las Vegas Insider is on the SF Giants at 8:05 ET. The Giants were scoreless through six innings last night but erupted for eight runs in the final three innings to win 8-3. It ended the team's three-game losing streak in which it had scored a total of just seven runs. SF may not need many runs tonight to win, with Barry Zito on the mound? After an 0-2 start to 2007 (8.18 ERA), Zito's allowed only eight ERs over his last five starts (team has won FOUR of five), for an ERA of 2.16. In three career starts vs the Rockies, he owns a 1.35 ERA, including a 0.69 ERA in two starts at Coors! The Giants may not need many runs but I expect them to score plenty. Jeff Francis is off a solid start in his last outing vs the Cardinals but he's 1-4 with a 5.61 ERA in 2007 and is winless with a 7.66 ERA in four starts this year at Coors, including the April 16 loss to Zito and the Giants. Francis is seeking his first win since April 9. Francis is 0-2 with an 8.03 ERA in two starts against the Giants this year, including that loss against Zito. Friday's loss was the third in four games for the Rockies, as they have been outscored 24-11 in the four games, as their offense continues to struggle. Colorado ranks 20th in the majors with 150 runs scored, and is tied for 26th with only 19 home runs. After a 4-2 start at home, the Rockies have lost SIX of their last nine home games. On top of all the previous stats, also note that the lefty vs lefty matchup also greatly favors the Giants as well. SF is 9-4 vs left-handed starters this year (4-1 on the road), while the Rockies are just 2-7 when facing a lefty in 2007. Las Vegas Insider on the SF Giants.

Game: Chicago Cubs at Philadelphia Phillies May 12 2007 3:45PM

Prediction: Philadelphia Phillies

Reason: Ai Simulator 3* graded play on Philadelphia Phillies - As i have been stating for the past week, this is a team that just feels like they are going to go on a big winning streak. After a very slow start they have raised their season BA to 268 and are batting 301 in home games at the hitter friendly Citizen's Bank Park. The move by ace starter Brett Myers to the closer role has really shored up the suspect bullpen. He is 3 for 3 in save opportunities over the past 7 games. They acquired Freddie Garcia through free agency and gets the nod today. After being on the DL with a minor injury to start the season he has steadily gotten back to his top level form. Sometimes the flash stats do not reflect the current form of a starter and that si certainly the case here with Garcia. In his last start he went a solid 6 innings, yielding just 2 ER and 6 hits, and WALKING NONE. CHICAGO CUBS are 34-54 (-24.7 Units) against the money line vs. teams whose hitters strike out 7 or more times/game over the last 2 seasons. CHICAGO CUBS are 13-24 (-14.7 Units) against the money line in May games over the last 2 seasons. CHICAGO CUBS are 43-63 (-24.9 Units) against the money line in day games over the last 2 seasons.

#979 NY Yankees with listed pitcher Desalvo over Seattle at 10:05 PM EST

Seattle's Miguel Batista and New York rookie Matt Desalvo faced each other in the Big Apple back on May 7th and Batista and the Mariners walked away with the tight 3-2 victory. Expect a different outcome this time around.
Fresh from Triple-A Columbus, Desalvo was making his first start in that contest and he performed very well. Over seven frames, the young right-hander from New Castle, PA was touched for only one earned run in seven innings of work. Miguel's numbers were good too - 6.1 innings pitched, nine hits and two earned runs - however this is not the spot for the big right hander from Santo Domingo. At home this season, Batista has been hit extremely hard. In 18.2 frames, No. 43 has been blasted for 13 earned runs and 20 hits. That breaks down to a lofty 6.27 ERA
The Yankee brass will be taking their second look at Desalvo and another strong performance by the youngster could lock up a roster spot. Take New York with listed pitcher Desalvo. Thank you and best of luck, Tom Stryker

Ben Burns' Personal Favorite BLOWOUT *23-5 L28 MLB -- Saturday

I'm playing on TORONTO. The Jays finally snapped their losing skid yesterday. With that monkey off their backs, I expect them to make it two in a row this afternoon. McGowan has a chance to stick around in the starting rotation if he can string together a couple of quality starts. McGowan is a longtime prospect, who has the potential to pitch well and who had a 1.64 ERA this season at Triple-A. Edwin Jackson, on the other hand, is 0-5 (Rays are 0-6) with an awful 6.99 ERA and 1.871 WHIP. With yesterday's victory, the Jays are now 7-1 the last eight times they faced the Devil Rays and 14-4 the last 18. They're also now a profitable 28-14 (+8.8) the last 42 times they were listed as home favorites in the -125 to -150 range. Look for McGowan to make the most of his opportunity as the Jays continue their series dominance and the Rays fall to 2-8 when playing an afternoon game. *Personal Favorite

Ben Burns' #1 National League Total of the Week! -- Saturday 12th

I'm playing on the Dodgers and Reds to finish UNDER the total. Last night's game resulted in a pitcher's duel (2-0 Dodgers) with the only two runs occurring in the first inning. I'm expecting another well-pitched affair this evening. Penny has been one of the best pitchers in baseball so far. He comes off another dominant outing in which he tossed seven scoreless innings while striking out a whopping 14 Marlins and allowing 0 walks. That brought him to 4-0 (Dodgers are 6-1) in seven starts this season and dropped his ERA to a miniscule 1.35. Not surprisingly, five of those seven starts finished below the total. Penny has also fared well vs. the Reds, going 5-2 with a 3.34 ERA and .196 opponent batting average in nine career starts. He's been particularly sharp in his last three starts against Cincinnati, allowing only three runs (1.50 ERA) through 18 innings. That makes it six straight outings against the Reds in which he allowed four runs or less and five of six in which he allowed two runs or less. His opponent, Kyle Lohse will have the advantage of starting (he did face them briefly in relief) against the Dodgers for the first time. His numbers aren't as awesome as Penny's numbers but are highly respectable, all the same. Indeed, Lohse has an excellent 3.21 ERA (1.280 WHIP) in seven starts, averaging nearly seven innings per start. The UNDER was 5-2 in those seven starts. Additionally, if we look back to August of 2005, we find that the UNDER is now an impressive 14-4-2 the last 20 times that Lohse started on the road. Look for those numbers to improve tonight. *NL Total of the Week

My free pick of the day is the game between (969) TAM Devil Rays and (970) TOR Blue Jays.

Take "(970) TOR Blue Jays".

Poor Edwin Jackson for the Rays, he's still looking for his first win of the season - in fact the team is looking for its first win in one of his starts. So far this year, Jackson is 0-5 with a 6.99 era and the club is 0-6 in all his starts. One problem is the base on balls. Jackson has walked 18 runners this season while striking out just 20. Granted, Toronto's Dustin McGowan is making just his second start, but laying a buck thirty five here at home against a pitcher with an era nearly seven and no wins in six starts - we'll take it!!! Play the Jays over the Rays!!!

Tampa Bay at Toronto
Pick: 4 units on Toronto -125 (risk 4 to win 3.2)

We wonder how much longer it will take for Edwin Jackson to pitch him out of the Tampa rotation. He has yet to win a game with TB in the last two years and his crummy career ERA is approaching 6, and it is at 7 this year. What makes matters more difficult is the D-Ray’s pen has an ERA of 6 as well, so it doesn't get any better. The Rays have produced just 13 runs in their five-game swoon, so it will be hard for them to stay in this one. Throw in the fact they are now 26-73 on the road in their last 99 games and you just can't back them at any price. McGowan will be making his second Major League start, although he did manage two scoreless innings in relief vs. the Rays.

Game: Arizona at Houston
Pick: 4 units on Houston -185 (risk 4 to win 2.2)

Roy Oswalt continues to be one of the most consistent pitchers in baseball. His ERA is between 2.7-3 for 2+ years now. He has dominated this Arizona team throughout his career. He has made 6 starts and is 5-0 with a microscopic 1.64 ERA. Livan Hernandez is off to a very good start, but the hottest hitters in the Astro’s line-up (Bergman and Lee), both have excellent career numbers against Hernandez. This is a young impatient D-Back lineup and Oswalt is a crafty seasoned veteran who will exploit the youth. Houston will bounce back and even this series.

Game: San Francisco at Colorado
Pick: 4 units on San Francisco -105 (risk 4 to win 3.8)

The Giants finally mustered up some offense and came from behind with a late barrage to beat the Rockies last night. The Rockies have been starved for offense all season and have managed just 17 runs in their last six games. Barry Zito has been strong at Coors Field, as he has posted a 0.69 ERA in his two starts there. Francis has struggled at Coors, as he has been winless in four starts with a 7.66 ERA. He has fared even worse against the Giants posting an 8.03 career ERA against San Francisco. Giants take their second in a row here.

4* Diamondbacks (RL)

Because Roy Oswalt is so over-priced for the side play in this one, we get a chance to buy a +1.5 at a cheap price in a game in which runs will not be easy to come by. That absolutely gets us in the game with Livan Hernandez, baseball’s version of a “tough out”.

We use that phrase a lot on the college basketball courts, focusing on the elements that a team can bring to the table that puts them in the hunt just about every time out, which can lead to big profits when they are in an underdog role. Hernandez is that on the mound. Now that his career has been given a second life, having been traded to a contender, he is making the most of it. Only once in seven starts has he allowed more than three earned runs, and taking a +1.5 with him every time out would have produced a 6-1 return so far. His last two outings show outstanding form, leaving after seven innings in a 1-1 tie at Los Angeles that the Diamondbacks eventually lost 2-1; and then throwing seven more solid innings to beat the Mets 3-1 earlier this week. The Astros have not seen him since April 8 of LY, which makes his assortment of pitches even more difficult to deal with. And with Brandon Webb throwing a complete game last night, following an off day on Thursday, the entire Arizona bullpen checks in rested and ready to go.

Yes, Roy Oswalt is tough. But with a weak offense behind him easy wins are few and far between – at -1.5 his eight starts would only have produced a 4-4 so far, and six of the eight came against teams that currently sport losing records. Against the only winning team the Astros faced with their ace on the mound they were beaten both home and away by Milwaukee. They have only won 11 of 35 games by multiple runs this season, and only four of their last 21. That makes this +1.5 worth much more than what they are charging for it, and we take full advantage, in a classic setting in which the Run Line offers us the best path to profits.

5 Dime –

GIANTS (With Zito as listed pitcher)

Take the Giants as a cheap road chalk tonight behind Barry Zito.

San Francisco broke out of their offensive slump with an 8-3 win last night, but they probably won’t need that many runs again to grab the win tonight.
That’s because Zito is 1-0 with a 1.35 ERA in three career starts against the Rockies, including a 0.69 ERA in two starts at Coors Field. The left-hander held the Rockies to three hits in six shutout innings in Denver on April 16, earning his first win as a Giant as San Fran cruised 8-0. Colorado will send Jeff Francis to the hill, and he is winless with a 7.66 ERA in four home starts this year, including the April 16 loss to Zito and the Giants. Francis hasn’t won since April 9. He’s also 0-2 with an 8.03 ERA in two starts against the Giants this year.

Take the Giants for the win in Coors tonight.

10 Dime –

PHILLIES (With Guzman and Garcia as listed pitchers)

Lay the juice and take the Phillies today over the Cubs.

Freddy Garcia gets the nod for Philadelphia today and he’s been superb against the Cubs in his career, going 4-0 with a 0.60 ERA in four career starts, allowing only two earned runs in 30 innings. Garcia will have the support of an offense that is suddenly coming to life. They have scored 16 runs to win their last two games. The Cubs pitching staff has given up 13 runs in losing their last two games.

Take the Phillies for the home win behind Garcia.

ANGELS (With Colon and Loe as listed pitchers)

Take the Angels as the road favorite today over the Rangers.

Two players for the Angels have absolutely dominated the Rangers over their career, outfielder Vladimir Guerrero and pitcher Bartolo Colon. Guerrero is a .433 career hitter against Texas and has gone hitless against them only four times in 58 career games. He went 0-for-2 with two walks on Friday and that could spell trouble for Texas today because Guerrero has never gone hitless in consecutive games against them in his career.
Colon’s success against Texas is even more impressive. The burly right-hander has won 11 straight starts against Texas since August 2003 when he was with the White Sox. During this streak, Colon has posted a 2.35 ERA with a .190 opponent batting average.
The Angels have outscored the Rangers 23-10 in winning all four matchups this season and I expect that trend to continue today.

Take the Angels for the road win.

TIGERS (With Durbin and Ponson as listed pitchers)

Take the Tigers for the road win today in Minnesota.

What we have here is two teams heading in opposite directions. The Tigers have won 10 of 11 since April 29, while the Twins have lost eight of 11. It’s going to be hard for Minnesota to break out of that slide behind Sidney Ponson today. He just gets banged around every time out it seems, and it shouldn’t be any different against a streaking Tigers team today. Ponson is 1-3 with a 6.85 ERA in four starts at the Metrodome this year. Detroit starter Chad Durbin has really turned his season around after getting hammered in his first three starts of the season. The right-hander is 2-0 with a 1.86 ERA in his last three starts after going 0-1 with a 10.54 ERA in his first three.

Take Detroit for the road win as a slight favorite.

TORONTO was a winner.

Good day to tail the the "Service Play of the Day" I guess.

I did not play this game, but hopefully some of you did. I do not follow or fade the spreadsheets, but a couple of threads ago one of you asked me if my plays were spreadsheet plays. I answered "no" but promised to post any clear-cut "Service Plays of the Day" or any clear-cut "Service Fades of the Day" if and when they ever appeared.

Chuck Franklin

1000♦ ATLANTA w/JAMES over Pittsburgh w/Armas

The Braves are playing outstanding baseball right now including four wins in a row and an 8-3 run. They are on a solid 10-5 run away from home. Chuck James is facing the Pirates for the first time in his career and will improve his record to 4-3 on the season with this win. Tony Armas brings a whopping 7.94 ERA into this game as he tries to get his first win of the season. This will be Armas' sixth try at a win and it will be the sixth time he will leave the game empty-handed. Take the Braves in a rout!

1000♦ DETROIT w/DURBIN over Minnesota w/Ponson

Simply put, the Tigers are red-hot and the Twins are not. Detroit has won 10 of its last 11 games played, while Minnesota has lost eight of their last 11. Tigers starter Chad Durbin is 2-0 with a 1.86 ERA in his last three starts. He faces the struggling Sidney Ponson. Ponson is 2-4 on the season, including 1-3 with a 6.85 ERA in four starts in the Metrodome. Detroit wins again!

Chris Jordan

100♦ MARLINS
(LIST Nolasco and Chico)

Let's not go celebrating Washington's win just yet, as I still know of this team being the one that was outscored 37-18 during an eight-game losing streak. So the Nats won yesterday, big deal.

Matt Chico is 0-1 with an 11.42 ERA in two career starts versus the Marlins, including his major league debut on April 4 when he gave up six runs and eight hits, including three homers, over four innings. Let's play the road team in this one.

100♦ GIANTS
(LIST Zito and Francis)

Now here's a team we jump on for snapping the losing strek. After the Giants' offense stepped up to snap a losing streak, the Giants turn to their ace to try and keep the winning going.

And the offense won't need to score that much with Barry Zito (3-3, 3.65 ERA) toeing the rubber to make his fourth career start against the Rockies (15-21). The fiery southpaw is 1-0 with a 1.35 ERA against Colorado, including a 0.69 ERA in two starts at hitter-friendly Coors Field. Roll with the road team here a well.

Drew Gordon

100,000♦ Tigers
100,000♦ LA Angels

Tigers- Red-hot Detroit brings their show to the Metrodome, where the Twins are just 3-9 since April 15th. Struggling is an understatement, as the Twins have lost 8 of their last 11 games, and look nothing like the team that won 54 games at home last year. Look for the Tigers to continue their hot streak this afternoon, as the only thing that stands between them and another victory is Sidney Ponson.

Ponson has pitched better of late, but overall he remains average at best, going 2-4 with a 6.42 ERA. Twins want him to eat innings, but the fact he's seen the 7th inning only once this season, tells us a lot about his ability. Look guys, Ponson is 4-3 with a 5.44 ERA in 7 career games against the Tigers... Not nearly good enough to slow down one of the hottest teams in the Majors!

Opposing Poson is the Tigers Chad Durbin, who's pitched well over his last 3 srarts, going 2-0 with 1.86 ERA, while leading his team to victories in all three games. Clearly something has "clicked" for Durbin over his last 3 starts, and I see little reason to believe he won't continue his success against the struggling Twins.

Finally, as well as the Tigers offense is playing, Durbin can expect plenty of run support in this one. Led by Sheffield, who's batting .342 with 5 dingers and 10 RBI over his last 9 games, the Tigers batting order has been ripping opposing pitchers... Add Ponson's name to that list this afternoon!

Take the Tigers behind Durbin over the Twins in this AL Central showdown.

LA Angels- Two words: Bartolo Colon. The Angels ace has beaten the Rangers 11 straight times, posting a 2.35 ERA while limiting Texas' offense to a .190 batting average... If that's not total domination, then I don't know what is! Besides Colon's streak against the Rangers, the Angels are 4-0 against Texas this season, outscoring them 23-10!

As good as Colon has been, there's little positive to say about the Rangers Kameron Loe, who's 1-2 with a 5.76 ERA. He was solid in his last start, but just to give you an idea of his struggles, before his last start against the Blue Jays, he allowed 16 runs in 9 1/3 innings of work. In other words, over his last 3 starts, he's 0-2 with a 7.88 ERA, primed and ready to get rocked in this one!

Bottom line, Angels ride their ace to another solid victory over the Rangers in afternoon MLB action. Angels batting order takes advantage of the struggling Loe, while Colon earns his 12th consecutive win against Texas in this one.

Take the LA Angels behind Colon over the Rangers in this AL West match up.

Karl Garrett

10 DIMER - SAN FRANCISCO GIANTS WITH ZITO

Southpaw showdown at Coors tonight as Zito and Francis hook up for the second time this month. On May 2nd Zito went 7 strong innings, while allowing just 2 runs to the Rockies. He didn't get a decision but certainly could have been the winner. Francis countered that night and did take the loss, working 7 innings of 4 run ball.

Francis just hasn't gotten untracked this year as he is now 1-4 with an ERA well over 5. At home Francis sports a 7.66 ERA, and an 0-3 record!

The Giants woke up late last night in the win to snap a 3-game slide, I like them to take Saturday's contest as well.

10 DIMER - LA ANGELS WITH COLON - (3:45PM START!)

The Angels won their 3rd in a row last night, and their 4th in a row this season over the Rangers in the 6-3 win.

I will ride them again today, as the Halos just own the Rangers of late, going 30-12 against Texas since the 2005 campaign!

Bartolo Colon is off to a 3-0 start since rejoining the rotation, while his counterpart Kameron Loe has a season ERA near 6!

Expect the Angels to make it 4 in a row, and 5 in a row versus the Rangers with the win this afternoon.

GIANTS (play only with Zito as listed pitcher for San Francisco)

Gotta go with the ace of the Giants' staff in this one as Barry Zito has already taken care of the Rockies twice this season, including once in the Mile High City.

Zito (3-3, 3.65 ERA) has dominated Colorado twice already. he threw six innings of shutout baseball in Colorado back on April 16, leading the Giants to an 8-0 victory and then gave up two runs on four hits in seven innings on May 2 in a 5-3 victory in San Francisco.

Over his last five outings, Zito has allowed just eight runs on 24 hits in 33 1/3 innings. Last time out for Zito was Monday when he allowed three runs on seven hits in six innings in a 9-4 victory over the Mets. San Francisco has won four of his last five starts.

Jeff Francis (1-4, 5.61 ERA) goes for Colorado and he's faced San Francisco twice and given up 11 runs on 16 hits in 12 1/3 innings. Not good numbers.

Play Zito as he seems to have gotten it together.

I'm on a 213-169-12 free selection run, including recent rolls of 33-19 and 48-26-3, despite the underdog Brewers just falling short at New York last night. And don't forget that I ended the football season by going 21-12-2 with my last 35 free gridiron plays.(how could we...)
For your Saturday freebie, I'm going to side with the Padres at home against slumping St. Louis. After their 7-0 loss last night at PETCO Park, the Cards have now dropped six straight on the highway and they're going down again tonight.
The Redbird offense just can't get on track this season. They have been shutout five times this year and have been held to two or fewer runs 17 times in 33 games. They are tied for last in the Senior Circuit in runs scored (105), are dead last with a .330 team slugging percentage and 15th with a .307 on-base percentage.
Tonight will be more of the same as St. Louis will struggle at the plate. Padre righty Chris Young has tossed 15 scoreless innings in two home starts this year and last season held the Cards to a mere run in 13 2/3 innings of work. And of course he's back by a standout pullpen that sports a tiny 1.67 ERA at home.
The Padres scored their third straight home win with last night's victory and they won't take the sliding Cards lightly. After all, St. Louis did sweep the Friars out of last year's playoffs (after doing the same in 2005!). Braden Looper heads to the bump for the Cards and I didn't like what I saw from him in his most recent road start when he allowed five earned and 11 hits in five innings at Milwaukee.
Russell Branyan, who belted two homers last night, is one of several Padres who have hit well against Looper in the past. For what it's worth, the Cards are 0-5 on Saturdays this year while the Padres are 5-0. Those trends continue tonight as San Diego takes Game 2 of this series, as well.
