He is a very polished hitter from NJ. He went to one of the best schools for baseball in the state. My brother played against him in H.S so I have seen him play a few times. Being around 27 he is a more mature hitter and it looks like he is off to a hot start. I wish this kid the best!

Padres with ZERO power on their team or system let him get away. Unreal!

hes in the russell branyan class. sick power. always had lots of potential. but relegated to being a journeyman because the tantalizing power is always offset by long stretches of swinging and missing. both guys are high power, high strikeout guys.

wow hard to keep him out of the lineup when Piazza gets back and why pitch to him load the bases and face Ellis but wasnt watching the game just looking at the boxscore.

I did watch the game, and I agree with you, Gravy. I could not believe they pitched to him.

As a life long friar fan...i had the same reaction almost...but the thing is I understood it. Trust me...everyone in the organization knew Cust could hit...there was no question about it. However...he is such a terrible fielder its downright embarrassing. It would never work out with a NL team...so a trade to an AL team was almost necessary

With the way Cust and Johnson are hitting it makes you wonder where Daric Barton and Piazza fit in to their plans later on. Considering they keep up respectable numbers. From what I've heard Barton is subpar with the glove and a move to the OF may be a little to much to ask.
