In an interview with David Lassen in the Sunday edition of the Ventura County Star, former world champion Fernando Vargas stated his last bout is tentatively set for Saturday, September 8th at a venue in Los Angeles. Vargas will not only be the headliner, but will serve as the promoter under his new promotional company, Vargas Entertainment Promotions. Vargas has dismissed critics for following through with his fight against former world champion Ricardo Mayorga. "I've got one more great fight in me. People can say what they want to say. This will be the last hurrah. Win, lose, or draw. That's it." The fight against Mayorga will be fought at a catch-weight of 162 pounds, eight pounds heavier than what he last fought at. "That 8 pounds is the world," Vargas says, "and people don't understand that

It will please the casual fan as it will be an all out slugfest. This is a cashout fight for both fighters.

You can bet this fight will have more action and be more entertaining than "The World Awaits" crap

I live in Ventura County and one of my co-workers sees Vargas at a gym in Camarillo periodically. He says Vargas looks like he's around 200lbs right now -shouldn't be a big deal because fighters shed the pounds fast once they get in training mode.

Yea I used to live in camarillo and oxnard....would run into vargas from time to time, he does balloon up between fights....must be all the tamales and torillas us mexican slove, not to mention the pan dulce. But I think thats what hurt him long term, the body can only take so much going up and down in weight, I beleive that was a main factor in the mosley fight 2, he just looked drained at the weigh in and looked very sluggish during the fight.

Vargas looked bout 200 at the Alpha Dog Premiere. We'll see if this fluctuation in wieght also plays a factor in this fight.
