I'm starting to think that Nevada may be too far to move for me with an older parent still living in this vicinity.

What is the overall consensus about finding sports bookies in AC vs finding them in La. ( i"m talking about the small bettor here)?

Thanks for the info.

I don't know about LA, but why on God's earth would you want to move to AC? Hopefully, your plans are to move on the outskirts.

Thats a favorite of mine.

Drink some morning liquor after an all nighter and head out to sit on the boardwalk with a stiff buzz.

Couldnt stay there an entire winter though:nono5:

Why would you move to a gambling city? What will you do for work?

who, La over AC any day of the week, good to great locals in all 5 larger cities(at least in the distant past), proximity to Biloxi and Redneck Riviera, affordable housing, and despite bad crime demographics..nowhere close to AC's pathetic cesspool numbers.

But, I must ask, why are these two poor choices your only option?..and are you familiar with brutal humidity in the summer?

nothing like Louisiana. One of the best kept secrets in the country. New Orleans is just that..best food in the world, party all the time, plenty of bookies..

The Lafayette (Cajun country) area is the best part of the state. Friendly people, LOTS of money (old oil money), HOT HOT HOT (did I say HOT) chics, hunting and fishing (if you are into that) is pristine, lots of golf, a growing community and an unbleivable slice in time that is unimaginable unless you go there.

Shreveport, Baton Rouge, Alexandria...forget it. Well, Baton Rouge does have LSU and HOT HOT HOT (did I say HOT) chics....

A wealth of info, plus many chuckles. Many thanks to you all. No-place is "utopia", except Nevada! But I just am very worried aboout moving that far from Va. I'm not wealthy but my credit rating is 2nd to none and I'm really a poor guy. I worked in NY WAY back when AC first opend for gaming. It was a zoo there and I was only in my late 20's. Yes--I can well imagine it's a sort of cesspool, but was wondering if New Orleans subberbs were much if anybetter!
Your comments are most welcome of both sides!!

Who,

What are you looking for? AC is a shit hole and from what I understand, NO is still a mess from the hurricane, some wards and like ghost towns and/or patroled by gangs and literally no cops.

I'm guesssing you can live (housing/ apt. wise) within 30 minutes of New orleans and Atlantic City --MUCH les than the same time /distance from Vegas. I do not know? Could be WRONG! That's why' am asking.

But am studing it and you folks are the very best available answers...
Thanks

Not true...

New Orleans is alive and well. The only thing gone is the trash. A much cleaner, safer and healthier city than it was. Check out the crime rate in 2006. Dropped about 30 spots per capita.

THe biggest Mistake about the whole katrina thing is that the REAL DAMAGE was done to Mississippi. 60 miles of beachfront totally devastated. Up to 4 miles inland flooded, about 15,000 residences totally destroyed...about 5,000 slabs.

The only reason you here about New Orleans is because

1. The area affected was mainly black, government housed welfare recipients. What better platform for Al Sharpton or Jesse Jackson. All in all, about a 5 square mile area.

2. The folks in Mississippi, after realizing their insurance (yes, these people actually paid taxes AND insurance) was not going to pay them jack, rolled up their sleeves, grabbed their neighbor, a shovel, chainsaw, hammer, whatever, and built their lives back together.

3. The storm surge is Mississippi was over 30 feet. In New Orleans, it was 13 feet. Didnt here that on the news...

4. Ray Nagan made a complete ass out of himself which drew even more attention to the city..

What a joke, New Orleans. Get on the web and check out Bay St. Louis, Waveland, Pass Christian and Long Beach Mississippi.

Probably true..New Orleans, especially downtown and the French Quarter where you probably were, are not places to live. There is an Uptown district in West New Orleans that rivals any upscale area in the country.

The part of LA that I am talking about (near Lafayette) is undobudtably the best kept secret in the United States. Hot, yes..

Would be difficult to understand myself had I not lived there a year..and I have lived in over 20 cities in my life, and have traveled and spent time in probably 30+ more.

It is a great place, culture, way of life...and yes, the chics are HOT (dark, french olive complections with black hair and crystal blue eyes is run of the mill down there) Not to mention they are all loaded!

GM - I drove through a few parts of NO as well and I wasn't impressed.
Regardless though, if you were looking for a place to retire to, New Orleans and Atlantic City should NOT be anywhere near the top of your list.
