Been practicing with a strategy developed by Fezzik and once I get this thing up and running I will report daily here at the RX on how it is going. Hoping to start in a few weeks or so. Playing $1-2 NL hold'em.

Slowly starting to get some interest in this but there is not alot of action. I guess when your only expiernece with poker is watching it on TV than you don't realize how boring it is and how there is a ton of folding (seeing around 10% of the flops).

As I fine tune and work on the strategy Fezzik has shown me I also am playing around on my own just to try and learn a little more of the in's and outs of the game. I am at complete beginner level.

What advice would some of you have? Any is appreciatied.

well it seems as though you're doing it mechanically.

for those who don't, i would say.

never play unless you have your emotions under control.

poker can really have one beat snowball into losing your bankroll.

you cannot have strategy is 1-2NL holdem, in NL you see at least 40-50% of flops...and when you go all in with top pair, the guy who don't give a shit about his $200 in chips is gonna call with a gunshot straight drawl...I can't believe he his gonna try to make you play and win on a consistant basis w/1-2NL.....

That is what I exactly want to happen, to be called by a guy that I am favored to beat. Sure you will suffer bad beats (it happens in all forms of gambling) but the percentages are on your side and that eventually means everything.

Tight-aggressive is usually the best approach. Play your position, can't stress this enough. Don't try to play weak hands or suited connectors from early position unless you have a very passive table. Live games are generally much more enjoyable than on-line games, and weaker for the most part. Go get em Ice...

Word. More than once about a year ago, I put like $100 in, played 5-7 hours a day for a week, turned it into like $2500, then blew it all in one night of chasing and playing horrible cards (along with some bad beats).

EDIT: Forgot to add the part about being hammered when I lost it all.

Isnt Fezzik a new poker player himself ? He speaks as an authority, but he is not. Try buying Dan Harringtons books.

Daniel Negraneu has a decent enough book I bought today just to see if there was anything new. I like his game.

From what I've heard Harrington's books are very good, but I think they're for tournament play.

Play tight and aggressive. Dont go into a hand unless your commited to that hand, unless you are in position with odds to see the flop with suited connectors etc. But dont overvalue your hand if it its, remember its only marginal. Also get a good bankroll strategy. Online play is much different then live, so take that into consideration aswell. Other than that theres not much to it, other than probability and pot odds etc. Theres a ton of good books out aswell. Good luck.

recognize the great differences between limit and no limit games and live and internet games.

You will not make it by only playing 10% of hands. You need to play more than that ESPECIALLY at these small limits. You will get new players who dont know shit and they will literally give their money away. But if you only play 10% of hands, then you wont get any of it

Ill somewhat agree with this, although its important to play position in these situations to make it worth it. If you are in late position and someone makes the standard 3-4xbb raise, its sometimes worth making that call with 56s, depending on the flop you can get very creative and really win some big pots. Just remember, slow playing in these types of games, ESPECIALLY with multipal people in the pot is NOT a good idea, hammer the pot when you have the goods, you will usually have at least one person call you.

It is a very good idea to befriend the poker room supervisor or whoever runs the room you frequent the most. This should include gifts or the ever welcome cash.
Most poker players dump a lot of money over their lives to the dealers, who really can't do much for them. By redirecting a portion of the dealer's tips to the management you will be making people who you can actually help you very happy.
I once turned the meanest poker boss at what was then the biggest poker room on the Strip into a sweet, adorable, big
bear with a $20 bill and a handshake.
The folks that run the rooms can make your life much easier in terms of comps, waiting lists, table selection and most importantly, information.

Also, always remember that poker is a people game, so play nice. Forget about trying to intimidate or be mean to your fellow players like on television.
Do whatever you can to make your fellow players enjoy playing with you and then you can bust them over and over.
