The NBA version never gets mentioned but that is a pretty impressive stat , 5 straight final fours, the equivalent of making the REAL playoffs before everyone qualified.

Doesn't mean as much coming out of the pathetic Eastern Conference every year.

It really is a nice feat. It is not easy to keep winning series and getting to this point. I am not sold on their coach or team but they can prove me wrong.

Took the words right out of my mouth. East is the B league. Detroit would be a 5 seed in the west.

I am kind of tired of hearing this crap..How did the West number 1 seed work out this year? Since the West has been so much stronger than the East lately then why are they not winning the championships?

Look for Detroit to take out whoever makes it out of the West. Of course then you will say Dallas woulda coulda shoulda.

I agree WVU. The West dominance is no longer, yes they have more qualit6y teams but the gap at the top is not there like it was.

Will San Antonio be favored over Detroit if they meet? Probably but not by that much.

Detroit would be the 5th best team in the West - though Utah would be close - after SA, Dallas and Phoenix there is a considerable drop - making four finals 4 is comical - did SA and Dallas play in the second round last year and how about SA and LA meeting in round 1 or 2 for six years with the winner going on to get rings - the seedings were so fucked up that they had to redo them - of course with Dallas out we are watching the finals in round two again - now would the Pistons be favored over SA? hahahaha - they don't even have home court - they would not be favored if all 7 games were set in Motown - and the Spurs still have a battle on the hands.

And when the Bulls were winning all their rings it was not like there was another chamionship type team in the east - going back a decade the west has 5 championship quality teams - the Rockets, SA, LA, and Dallas and the Suns - I know Dallas and the Suns have not won but most would consider them having a legit shot at a championship.

And since 1999 how many? (it's a trick question, you've already answered it above).
OK Let's go back to 1988/89 10-8 favoring East ! You are correct it's tricky and what alters the stats obviously are dynasties like the Bulls, Lakers, and Spurs. There is no question in my mind that the West overall is better but I don't buy the line that Detroit doesn't belong.

Detroit plays team basketball and is tough as shit - they belong - if the Suns come out of the west the Pistons can win - but they won't beat SA (and that's not me being a homer) - SA and Detroit were dead even in 05' with Wallace who is critical at keep Parker and Manu away from the rim - insert Webber and Parker and Ginobili might as well set a dinner table in front of the hoop.

point is you take any of the top 5 teams in the West and if they were in the Eastern Conference the last five years they could very well have acheived the same thing.

The pistons may have been the 5th best team in the West back in January but this is May. Anyone who follows the team can tell you this team and the team 2 or 3 months ago are two different animals

As far as what conference won what and blah, blah, blah I just like to rember the Pistons crushing Shaq and Koby in the finals as +400 dogs or whatever they were. Truth is the West and East play totally different basketball and to compare either conference on regular season play is silly
