I'm not a big Jeter fan, but how is this not a big deal?

According to The New York Times and the Society for American Baseball Research, New York Yankees SS Derek Jeter singled in the first game of the May 16 doubleheader against the Chicago White Sox to give him hits in 92 of his past 100 games. No player in the 1900s has accomplished that feat. The last player to do it was Wee Willie Keeler, who hit in 93 of 100 games 1898 and 1899.

That's pretty amazing. A hit in all but 8 games out of his last 100.

That's sick. He's gone hitless in 3 games this year. Most of the sports media is too busy bending over for Bonds these days to notice though.

As a Sox fan, I got mad respect for Jeter. Not many Yankees I can say that about. Mo is the only one that comes to mind off the top of my head.

Well that streak deserves attention. Clemens and a lot of the other crap doesn't, but this is a legitimately sick run. It'd be a hell of a lot better than seeing ESPN cut to every one of Bonds' at bats in the middle of whatever game is on.

The guy has been a pro since he's come up. Never shoots off his mouth. Leads by example. Puts up numbers year after year.

Do you realize that Joe DiMaggio couldn't repeat this same feat? He had a 56 game hit streak and when that ended, followed it up with a 17 game hit streak and still can't beat this.
