From a 1st baseman this is really bad. The worst part is it is a non issue around these parts because of how nice of a guy he supposedly is.

I am not sure he has been even close to hitting one out this year that i recall. I have never seen a weaker swing by a big guy. To add to the problems he may be the slowest player in the league.

Even more important is that is does not have a lot of RBI's. You have to at least drive in runs. He is hurting right now. Bigtime.

Leyland loves Casey too...says Casey is the key to this team, I was a little surprised at that comment.

I wish we had casey back in cincy, he isnt gonna hit homers, but he does usually sport a good average and the rbis usually end up coming (nothing dominant but not bad), and of course he is a great clubhouse/community guy.

I played softball with this guy for like 10 yrs, amd even in softball the first baseman is a position for a hr hitter. I would have to say this guy hit maybe 5 hr's in 10 yrs. So I guess casey does not seem so bad to me. What a joke this thread is. Get over it already buddy boy.

Sweeney would be better but that's what he does. 308 hitter would be fine.

the reason Sean Csey has a job is he is a clubhouse leader, and a very good defensive 1B. With the tigers lineup he doesnt need to hit 30hr and 120 rbi they are good just nocking him in when he gets on base. He is struggling a little right now, but will usually be around .280 with a .350 OBP and 60 rbi. He brings more to the table then just some power.

Excellent defense, hits for average, smart player. He has no power and is in a big park so I wouldn't expect any, but Detroit has enough power in their lineup, they don't need Casey to hit em over the fence. Very good ballplayer.

Casey hits for average and plays a great 1B. He is what he is. They cant all be bangers like Ryan Howard and Big Papi.

Casey would have had a grand slam in the first inning vs. Boston Thursday night, but the wind killed it. Comerica (National) Park kills his already weak power.

he was the only tiger hitter that was worth a f--- in the world series vs the cards. they couldn't get him out, hit a few jacks if i recall & kept them close. he was a one man team.

A few at bats or 1 series doesnt make a player, good or bad for that matter.

Top teams do not have 1st baseman who go 2 months without hitting homeruns. There is no question he is a good guy from all accounts but you must put up some decent offensive numbers from the least important posistion dfensively.

Watching this guy everyday and you would see what I mean, he is a below average hitter at a posistion that is crucial to get some sort of production.

The Tigers cut ties last year with Chris Shelton and he hit around 20 hr's in less than a full season. Casey looks old and slow.

Carlos Pena is hitting .309 with 8HR and 23RBI in Tampa Bay.

Pena had his chance in Detroit. He got about 500 at bats with the Tigers
and hit about .200. You can't wait forever.

They can get away with it due to pop, albeit god awful defensive play, at short and Casey is a tough out in big moments and against good pitchers.

C Pena career with Tigers

.243
1193 AB
63 HR
176 RBI

Hopefully, Casey's career with Tigers will be worth at least that of Bryan Rogers - the player for was traded to Pirates by Detroit.

Iceman- What is interesting is there are alot of players with really whacky stats at this point of the season. Pretty Interesting stuff.

time to call up shelton for an offensive spark or else trade for teixeria.

casey is a good clubhouse guy and everyone likes him and he plays an above average defense, but damn swing a bat once in a while.
