maybe a reptile, a snake or something ?

You could leave a housecat behind for probably close to a week while you go to Vegas or wherever, provide water and food to last a week, cat probably don't even care much.

That's extreme, and cruel, but cats are cool animals, they deserve a bit of respect.

Dogs are way more dependant.

What are you trying to say???

A snake would probably encourage bets when people are over, a cat is good when you're away (leaving food and water is not cruel) and dogs are great support during the rough patches.

Dogs deserve every bit as much as cats do. You won't find a more loyal creature on this earth.

I love my 2 Jack Russells better than 90% of all humans, but there is nothing worse than drawing into an up and down straight with my oldest poking his nose in my calf as to say, "daddy, I need to poop, and I need to poop now"

You have to spring for a kennel. If I leave my shar-pei at the house by herself for more than just overnight, she freaks out and breaks out of the backyard and terrorizes the neighborhood. I left one afternoon for North Carolina (Aerosmith concert) and was going to be back at 1 PM the next day. I started getting phone calls at 9 AM that the shar-pei was camped out in my front yard, growling and threatening anyone who came near the house.

Dogs are cool but they smell up the place. I like cats because they're cleaner and don't need permanent attention like Fido. Saltwater fish are cool too. Some fish, like porcupine puffers, have personalities and can recognize their owners. If I were to get a reptile, the only one I'll get is a chameleon. Those are way cool.

iguanas are pretty cool,too... but kind of high maintenance !

I like cats, they have to be the lowest maintenace mammal around.
