BIG AL'S PAID PLAY!!!!!

At 8:10pm our American League Total of the Week is on the Oakland Athletics and Chicago White Sox 'under' the total. The Athletics are not very athletic these days. Their players are falling apart literally. Take the case of closer Huston Street, who went on the DL recently wtih an injured elbow. Then just as their very effective setup man, Justin Duchsherer, was readying to take over the stopper role he goes down with a bum hip. And, 10 days after coming off the DL, outfielder Milton Bradley is nursing yet another injury and is day-to-day with a hammy problem. It's been one thing after another for this team, and although their pitching has been a problem, it's their lack of offense that has contributed mostly to their woes. Speaking of lack of offense, can the Chicago White Sox be the same offensive team that is only 2 years removed from winning a World Series? They have a team batting average that is not only the worst in the American League at .230, it is 22 points below the next worst teams, the Texas Rangers, Kansas City Royals, and the Oakland A's. At least Oakland has a bit of an excuse with all of its injuries. But it is really hard to explain what has caused the power outage of the White Sox, other than to simply say that age may be catching up to them. It's a testimony to their pitching that despite this non-existent offense, the White Sox are still over .500 and only 3 1/2 games back in the AL Central. The under is 10-4-3 in Chicago's last 17 home games and 26-12-3 in Oakland's last 41 overall. Take the 'under'. As always, good luck...Al McMordie.
