I said it was stupid for them to sign him in 2005 - he had 1 good year with the Marlins and became the "hot" FA pitcher in the offseason. NYY outbid Boston for him and look what they got. The guy's whole career is filled with injury problems. My guess is he will not pitch in the bigs again

Penny Hardaway.

The biggest thief in sports can go to Shandon Anderson's stint with the Knicks.

Mike Hampton makes Carl Pavano look like Jack La Lanne.

Couldn't disagree more.

Hampton was one of the biggest busts in baseball, but not nearly as big of a bust as Pavano. In three seasons Pavano only played in 19 games, 111 innings, with 5 wins.

In his first year alone in Colorado, Hampton played in 32 games, ate up 203 innings and won 14. That alone is way better than 3 combined seasons of Pavano. We'll compare the first 3 year stretch after Hamptons and Pavanos contract seasons and you can't even argue it.

Pavano: 19 games, 111 innings, 5 wins
Hampton: 93 games, 571 innings, 35 wins

Hampton wasn't Cy Young or anything, but at least he gave the team innings and a chance to win with Rockies run support. When he came to ATL for three seasons after his first two on the contract in COL, he was definitily productive until he got injured.

Adrian Beltre is the greatest bust ever, simply because he has no excuse.

Everyone else on this list had injuries.

Beltre is never hurt and is the 3rd highest paid player in baseball and a complete bust.

He cant even play the field anymore for some reason.

Beltre doesn't need to give an excuse, which is why I don't think he's a bust. He is who he is.

Blame Seattle if you're a Mariners fan. His last two years in SEA have been consistant and sometimes better than the 6 previous he had until his single fluke year with LAD.

If you had looked at his career you had to expect this was how he would perform in Seattle.

My bad, the Pavano contract was actually a 4 year deal, but is expected to miss all of next season as well. Even worse, so you can stretch those #'s over 4 years, add in Hamptons 4th year on contract w/ ATL and it's a joke of an argument.

Reminds me of the Rangers signing of Chan Ho...
Yeah, that one was pretty bad.

I remember the talk that the Sox might get Pavano, so glad we didnt end up with him.

The Marlins kind of looking like a farm system for the higher payroll MLB teams.

Guy could be one of the top all time hitters:

Adrian Beltre went 4 for 4 for Texas, pushing his career total to 2,503 hits, but the Rangers have a season-worst, six-game losing streak.

Ha. All Beltre has done the last 4 1/2 seasons is have 799 hits, 134 homers, 163 doubles, 436 RBI, while making three all-star teams. But he is the biggest bust of all-time. Shouldn't make snap judgements.
