This is what is wrong with our judicial system. This kid was clearly an alcoholic that was willing to risk other peoples lives just so that he can drink and not get a ride home. Now his father, someone who probably is somehow responsible for his own sons alcohol problem is now trying to sue the bar that served him a drink.

While i think there are times where an establishment can be blamed i certainly don't think this drunks father should profit from his own parental failures.

True story:

Back in the early 90s I was bartending at a local club. One of the guys we worked with - kitchen guy - was a bit of a boozer. He would take his car home, cab it back, and sit and drink all night.

So one night, after he's hammered, we put him in a cab, send him home. Like we always did. He then goes home, goes to bed, wakes up an hour later and decides he's hungry. Drives to get something to eat. On the way back, he wraps his car around a telephone pole. He lost part of his arm and had a ton of broken bones.

He then successfully sued the bar to the tune of 1.2 million.

Unbelievable.

Nope. Just drinking.

He's not responsible when he gets in his car AFTER he's home. And he's not responsible when he initially calls the cab to come take him to the bar. Nor is he responsible when he realises he's getting drunk.

WE were responsible because we knew he was a drunk. Guess the law doesn't expect an alcoholic to know he is one.

Stupid.

People are ridiculous with these lawsuits. When my family owned a bar, a guy was buzzed and joking around, bit into a glass!! He ended up with about 9 stitches in his mouth. That idiot sued us over it and we had to settle out of court for about $10,000.

They're still scrapin him off my stucco.

Mr Hancock,

Even if you win your son is a fucking dead loser who squandered opportunities afforded him that most of us here can only dream of.
This is a fact that no amount of money or lawsuit will change.

While I fully believe that Josh Hancock was responsible for his actions that caused his death, there is something about this case that bothers me and it is mentioned in the lawsuit. I don't like towing companies and I dislike tow truck drivers even more. Far too many tow truck drivers are unsafe and don't give a shit that they may be making an already unsafe situation even more dangerous. They park wherever the hell they want to and take their sweet ass time getting done what they need to get done.

How long was that tow truck parked where it was? Were the flashers on? Were there flares set up in the road? Even if the tow truck's flashers were on and there were flares set up in the road, Josh Hancock probably wouldn't have seen them anyway.

I'll be the first to admit that I don't know all the information associated with this deadly crash but my guess is that as more information comes out, that tow truck will be a key part of the whole situation.

I guess the sad truth is that Josh may make his family more money dead than alive. People are litigation crazy. It has to be someone's fault so let's sue. So how about taking some responsibilty for his son's actions/problems?

Sad, Sad, Sad, times we live in where anyone can sue anyone for damages when common sense should prevail....Hancock screwed up his life and now his Dad want's other's to Pay?? The Dad must get on with his life and deal with this horrible episode....Fact, Hancock drove drunk and stoned and had done it numerous times before his death....

i think this lawsuit is a joke... i feel bad for the family of josh hancock but he is responsible for his own actions... i think its a joke that his father would do something like that... i mean come on the guy was twice the legal limit with pot in his suv as well and im sure in his system as well... he should just move on with his life because in the end his son made the decisions and now unfortunately he is gone...

F-ed up lawsuit. Hancock was dumb, just let it go.

An old lady hit me and I may be the first person I know that will actually be honest and not go to the most expensive shops in town.

I bartended in Chicago. A bachelor party came in and the instant they stepped foot into the bar, you knew it was going to end with them either starting a fight or our staff ending a fight. I cut them off after 3 rounds and told them they needed to leave. Drunk dumb fucks making every lady in the bar uncomfortable and every lady's man pissed. Cutting off a drunk isn't easy, let alone a group of them. Imagine a group of off duty cops like you saw in the Chicago bar surveillence video. They started getting physical with the waitress. The bouncer gets involved and asks them to leave. They start trying to push him around. I call the cops. The barback gets involved. Other patrons get involved. Finally the cops show up and arrest 2 of the deucsh bags after one of them gets his arm broken. Later, the ****** sues the bar, bartender(me), and bouncer for get this....

Allowing too much consumption of alcohol that led to a physical altercation that left him with a broken arm. We had to settle for nearly $45k.

Tow truck's problem? What are you talking about? How about NOT DRINKING AND DRIVING? What do you want or expect from a tow truck driver? They are not nascar pit crew's. Everytime I have ever used one they were quite prompt and quick to be on their way to the next one. :think2:
