this was one of the most outragious and most entertaining fights I have ever seen , at one point after one of the ball shots , Riddick goes absolutley school yard on Gollota throwing some of the biggest haymakers I have ever witnessed in a sanctioned boxing match .... And the walkie talkie incident to wrap it up ..........PRICELESS !!!

GOOD LOOKING OUT THOUGH , i JUST TURNED IT ON TO SEE BOWE WREATHING IN PAIN ....

They fought twice and both were absolute wars...Bowe was definitely an entertaining heavyweight, Gulota was pretty much a dirty fighter I remember the big brawl after the fight,

Gulota was a little-respected fighter with a reputation for being wild, and had frequently resorted to fouls and dirty tactics.... He had bitten one fighter while in trouble, hit people after the bell, used his forearms, and intentionally head-butted a fighter while ahead in that fight.

Bowe seemed to be a higher caliber fighter, and was far better known than Golota so, if Bowe were victorious, he wouldn’t truly win anything since the public and boxing writers felt that he should beat Golota easily. If Bowe were to lose to Golota, then he'd be losing to a "nobody" and it would damage his status in the division just as he was looking for a title shot. Naturally, few actually gave Golota a chance.

Tyson may have chomped off Holyfields ear, but Golota may be the cheapest MF'er to have hit boxing in a LONG time.

Golata basically ended Bowe's career if I recall. Was pretty sad because he was dominating Riddick both fights before his street instincts took over and he got zeroed in on the low blows.

The guy used to rob restaurants for a living in Poland before he began boxing -- Bowe is lucky he didn't take the uppercut in the sack and then find out his car was stolen too.

Didn't know that, but that explains it to an extent. My brother swung through Poland a while back & I guess it's still absolutely poor as hell.

Rough country to grow up in.

You said it! Bowe/Holyfield were amazing fights and for me - were the glory days of that division.

It was Bowe/Golata that had the walkie talkie incident.

Great posts throughout this thread , absolutely brutal nd the most exciting dangerous fights youll almost ever see. great posts though, everyone nailed it here, so much intrigue in these fights, bowes career done, true he didnt have much to gain by beating golota , golota right there for the victories and just throws em away with vicious combonations to bowes crotch.

LOVE BOWE GOLOTA

From Bowe/Golata I

(From Wikipedia)

The fourth round set a pattern for the rest of the fight. Golota poured on the punishment, but continued flirting with disaster because of low blows. He was penalized a second time, and finally, in the ninth round, he threw a series of punches that were all low and was disqualified.

Bowe had to be carried from the ring to the dressing room, while in the ring one of the worst riots in boxing history broke out. Angered by the low blows, which injured former champion Bowe, and frustrated by Golota's dirty tactics, several members of Bowe's camp ran into Golota's corner, and one hit Golota with a large walkie-talkie.

This ignited a melee in both the ring and in the seats, where anger was running high among Bowe’s hometown fans. Lou Duva, Golota's trainer, collapsed (it was feared that he might have had a heart attack). Riot police were called in to deal with the chaos, and more than 20 people were hurt before order was restored.

Both were excellent heavyweight battles. Golota was winning most of the exchanges and was getting the better of it both times - while they lasted. Bowe actually made a "comeback" in like 2004 when he fought, and won, two times - 7 months apart when he weighed 273 in the first fight and 228 in the 2nd. Haven't heard anything about him lately. Good fighter - his wars with Holyfield were as good as it gets

Poland isn't that poor... things changed here quite a lot
Golota hasn't robbed any restaurant as far as I know. He was accused of beating up somebody in the restaurant.. or after they left it. Normal brawl as many happen but Golota was also using a gas-gun (if my memory works well).
In this period he was famous for getting involved in brawls and having suspicious friends. But he was also quite famous in Polish sport then
Nevertheless, to avoid prison he fled to the US and started his pro career

... and judging by his interviews, Golota is a complete moron

If you guys haven't done so, watch the HBO Legendary Nights special on Bowe-Golota (actually, watch all 12 episodes of that fantastic series). They did a great job of telling both fighter's story leading to the fights and showing the highlights of the fights.

Gotta love that 3-punch combination to the balls by the Foul Pole. :missingte

Dude next time check your info before you post some bullshit about Golota.
He had problems with the law but definitaly he did not rob restaurants for a living.
Won bronze medal at the Olympics and then left Poland.

Watched the 2nd fight on ESPN last night. What heart by Bowe - dude was getting clobbered and refused to back down - fought back and turned into an all out war. Bowe was already a shadow of his former self at that point but his heart was still in its prime. Golata had a TON of talent but wasn't playing with anywhere near a full deck. Blatant head butts and low blows out of frustration and stupidity. He couldn't believe Bowe would stand up to some of those shots and keep firing back. Excellent fight
