with the deaths of Dimaggio and Williams...... who now carries the title..... you guys remember Joe D, making the Yankees announce him as "the greatest living ballplayer".

my vote goes to Henry Aaron on stats alone but a very good argument for Stan Musial should be made.....

Pitcher, lets hear the arguments.......

getting back to the other thread for a moment..... i think players playing their entire careers for one team will be favored.......

Living players:

C: bench and berra
2B: Joe Morgan
3B: Schmidt (sorry Jman) (Brooks)
SS: Smith and Ripken

OF: Aaron, Mays, Musial, Bonds, Rose (gotta put him somewhere)

Pitchers: Feller, Gibson, Koufax, Carlton, Clemens, Ryan, Seaver, Maddux.

chime in JMan on Living 1B and dont say Eddie Murray.

Journey, Hank is probably one of the most underated players of all time as well.

Most Homers
Most RBI's
3rd in Hits

and he was in some pretty bad lineups, except for eddie matthews... he was also in his prime in a pitchers decade (60's).... have you seen some of the hitters stats from the 60's..... Look at Yaz's triple crown season.

oh yeah, put Frank Robinson on the list above as well......

i put Bonds on the list but barry and all the juice guys will suffer for a long time......

greates living 1B:

Murray, Carew, Hernandez, Mcgwire, got to be others......

Jayson Stark has a new book out about "alltime overated" and underated players.... should be a good read......

George Brett should be mentioned at 3B as well but not ahead of Schmidt or possibly Robinson.....

I'd put Schmidt and Brett ahead of Brooks....I also don't feel McGwire is worthy of any mention , glorified Dave Kingman on roids.

Journey, Schmidt is hands down the greatest 3rd baseman of all time, if anyone doubts it... simply look at the numbers and not just offense..... he won more gold gloves than brooks......

this is really the only posistion that cant be argued...... well that and Honus Wagner at short...... all other posistions are open for debate.....

i give the nod to bench but berra is an argument....

We finally agree on something :aktion033

Would have rather had Mark Grace than Mark Mcgwire in the 90's
