these 3 are arguably the best pure hitters of our generation ....

I curious from the RX elite , the opinions on who was the best ... Some stats to chew on , while we discuss ....

Carew 19 seasons 3053 Hits , .328 average ( high year .388 )
Gywnn 20 seasons 3141 hits , .338 average ( high year .394 )
Boggs 18 seasons 3010 hits , .328 average ( High year .368 )

I personally Tony Gwynn was the best pure hitter ( Ihave witnessed with my own 2 eyes , I never saw Teddy Ballgame play ...) But Gywnn could get a lock on any pitch , he didnt swing for the fences , but the man was clutch and always seemed to get on base when you needed one ...

In fairness , I will add Ichiro to the list .... although his career is far from over ... But he is probably the best in the game right now at seeing the ball ...

I think Boggs was a selfish hitter. He really only cared about his average.

I vote for Rod Carew.

I was an A's fan back then and a Senators fan before that I saw alot of Carew, with Twins and Angels and he was the bomb.

Used to love when Vida Blue would hook uo with either Frank Tanana or Nolan Ryan and was a classic and 5 days later they would do it all over again.

Always under the total and Carew would be the most intese part.

Vida vs Carew with the game on the line.

Damn I miss the good ole days of the unbalanced schedule.

Kinda like Hockeys original six.

Ichiro is not on the same field as the afore mentioned 3.

My vote goes to Tony

Im playing Devils advocate here , But Ichiro is a hell of hitter , maybe not as good as though 3 Hall of Famers I mentioned , but I forgot who holds the single season records for hits again ? , Who holds the record for 5 consecutive 200 hit seasons to start career ? ( not to mention a .331 career average ) Ichiro is amazing to me , because he practically puts everyball in play , He doesnt walk much , but he also rarely strikes out ...He's a slapper

Ichiro is better than all of them. Carew did have a rep for being a selfish hitter.

I would rank them:

1-Ichiro
2-Gwynn
3-Carew
4-Boggs
5-Rose

I always thought Cobb was regarded as the best hitter and no one was even remotely close?

Seen all three play and still cannot make up my mind between Gwynn and Carew....Boggs was a distant third....
