Isn't the rule that if a game gets to the 5.5 inning mark, it is official?
I remember when the Seattle Mariners were playing in Cleaveland against the Indians and it was snowing and the bases were loaded and the count was 3-2 with 2 outs in the top of the 5th and it got called, and they said if there was just one more out (one more strike in that scenario), the game would have been final. Instead, they made up the game by restarting it completely.
Wrong. Moneylines would have had action, if the rain had not stopped. Would have been 8-6 final. RL's and totals no action. They don't have to call it after 8.......they could call it in the middle of the 9th, and ML's still have action. The only time the books would revert back is if the visiting team took the lead in the top half. In that case, game would be finished tomorrow, but the books would grade it as a Cardinals win (or push if it was tied after 8.)
Once it goes 5 innings, or 4.5 with the home team leading, it is an official game. If it doesn't go 4.5, the game is thrown out and none of the stats count. It will always be a final when they call it, unless the visiting team has taken the lead in the top half of an inning, and the home team has not finished batting in their bottom half. When that happens the game is suspended, but the books revert back to the score before the visiting team took the lead. Push if it was tied, home team win if they were leading. Hope that helps.
