Dont count them out yet. The only two players they have gotten any production out of so far is AROD and Jeter. If they can pull it together, and get there bats together they will be ok. I am a Yankee fan, and i think our best bet @ the playoffs is honestly the Wild Card. The AL east would be fairly hard to capture but we still do have 9 games against boston, and if they can hang in there till July they could have a cake walk month. 8 games against TB, 4 Against KC, and Toranton, and 3 against BAL.

They're NOT catching Boston and since there are at least 3 teams in the AL Central better than they are, they're not getting the WC, either. Ahhhhh, ain't life grand...

Baseball is a 162 game season...in 2005 the Yankees were 39-39 after 78 gams, everyone was saying they were done then too...
They finished 55-28 that year over the final 3 months...
You being a Red Sox fan I realize you desperately need to reassure yourself that this will 'be the year' I get that... but don't act like these Yankees can't come back...my God you have been around, I would expect more from a Boston fan!

Jon Lester is crushing AAA batters and is clearly ready to come back to Boston. If their is an injury to a Boston pitcher, they have a spare part to plug right into the gap and not miss a beat.

I'm a diehard Yankees fan and they're done, toast, over. I hope they prove me wrong but I don't see it happening. They might turn it around to finish the season with a winning record but under Yankee expectations that is not good enough. They will have to go on a ridiculous tear to even have a shot at the Wild Card but their are two many contenders in the Central for that to happen. Boston is way too good this year, they have the East locked up already in May which is sad. It was a good run winning the AL East for nearly a decade, but it's come to an end - as well as their 10 year run of playoff appearences.
the yankees have gotten off to some slow starts in recent years, but something does seem different this year. Ill be the first to say they would be a lot better if their starting pitching had been healthier, but it is what it is.

Although the speculation of Torre being fired has been ominous all season in the papers, it hadn't hit reality yet how far the Yankees have fallen until yesterday.
The booing in the Bronx of Torre after taking Mussina out too early and then having to take Proctor out for walking in the tying and go ahead runs, for the first time since early in 1996 was actually underplayed by the media IMO. I thought it was a very sad thing to see and officially marked the end of an era.

We have all counted the Yankees out before though...they don't even look that great offensively right now...

Pettitte has been very good so far, better than expected i think.

If I had to put on odds the Yankees making the playoffs I would say they have about a 25% chance at this point....they will make a run though.
