Thinking about moving to the area as know there are some great Golf coarses and love the area. Are there any poster's in the area and how do you like it? How is the gambling climate? Know that it is in the bible belt and wondering how the gambling opinions are. Are there many locals in the area? That sounds like a lowded question, sorry don't know how to phrase it otherwise.

don't know much about birmingham now.but in the early and middle 90's it was somewhat of a gambling hotbed, with one of the largest line services at the time and many, many locals.

also many of the schedules many used to receive in the mail advertising touts etc. were printed in the birmingham area

lived in bham all my life. pretty decent ciy for golf. You've got a few of the RTJ golf courses plus the new course the seniors play on in the Regions tourney. I guess I'd have to know where you were moving from to compare the gambling atmosphere? There are no casino's here, the closest one is Philadelphia Mississippi on the Indian Reservation. Which by the way has one of the nicest golf courses that I have ever played on called the Dancing Rabbit. It is about a 3 hr drive. There are tons of private poker games and craps/blackjack games. As far as locals go you can't beat the fuckers off with a stick. I probably have 20 to 25 different locals that i do business with, now that I think of it they are not all in bham, but most are. I think there are so many becase booking the sports in bham is not a felony, like it is in FL, Ga, Ms, Tn. I'd be happy to answer any questions for you if i can.

The local bookies are reliable unless Alabama is covering the spread in which they are then hamered and then they are hurting.

I appreciate all the good replies. I would be moving from Texas so it would not be such of a big move , only about 500 miles. Just looking for a change from a big metro area. Like a little smaller town with good golf available.Just spent about a week in the area and was impressed. At this immediate time am pinning it down to two choices, Birmingham or South Carolina.

The traffic is terrible in the newer sections - Shelby, etc.

Great food - great sports (especailly college baskets).

You can gamble, home games or bookies, on any corner.

Closeest casino is an Indian casino in MS. It is really a resort.
Pearl River Resort -Choctaw, MS 39350. They run buses twice a day from Birmingham.
