Not since Montreal in 1992-93 season has a Canadian team won the Cup.

Will Canada even recognize Lord Stanley if and when it returns home?

Is this something that bothers hockey fans up north?

I guess the saving grace is that most of those championships regardless of where they are located, were won on the backs of Canadians, both players and management.

Other than that, ya, it sucks....

Hope the sens can bounce back on wed

Hmm. Not to get too OT. But I have to say the indy 500 (Borg-Warner Trophy) gives the stanley cup a good run for its money. It's so cool with all those different heads on it. Everything else is fairly forgetable.

But thats another discussion for another time. Believe there is already a multi page thread on trophys from a couple years back.

Getting back on topic, if the NHL were set up anything like the olympics. Yes, Canada (obviously) would win it every year. As SS points out, esentially every team has Canadians with their hands on majority of operations and or the guys on the ice.

I posed with the Stanley cup once, was pretty cool. Was at a guys house a few towns over. Skinny red haired kid who played for Colorado when they won it. Couldnt believe he was a pro athlete when I saw him. He was just so thin and tall.

I didnt stick around until the end of the night, heard everyone was drinking beer out of it and stuff when it got late.

Thing that amazed me is how they keep finding room for more teams on that thing.

Rob in Olympic Hockey Canada doesn't win it regularly....also the Cup has additional rings added every time they run out of room.

What seems a little odd to me are these American teams from places like Anaheim and Tampa and Carolina , where ICE is only seen in a glass and these teams are winning Cups, while Montreal and especially Toronto have disappeared from Hockey .

Maybe Ottawa can still pull this out.

here is the original, which is now the top part.

The 'greatest trophy in sports' started out as a glorified punch bowl, compared to what it looks like now.

Early 90's almost seems like yesterday.

But the truth is pain to me, we are talking 14 years ago.

Is there any way I can get the roster of the Colorado team that won it. I am curious to know this kid's name. I am almost sure it was Scott something.

correct. However, 'professionals' were not allowed to play for many yrs--they were allowed to play at Nagano . Russia traditionally dominated as they would keep their 'pros' in amateur status. Mother Russia can't seem to win much anymore.:think2:

BTW that Anaheim blueline is carried on the shoulders of Scotty and Chris. Any guess as to where they are from? ....Baltimore maybe? ....In addition, 8 of Anaheim's top 9 season point leaders are from , well, guess which country?

Russia is not the same either though since they broke up the Union.

no, they are still terrifically powerful--they IMO produce the best overall talents, consistently. They dont regularly play as a team, and certainly dont have the 'heart'/desire of Canadian hockey players---excellent example of this was the recent World Hockey Championship (AT MOSCOW!!!). We never should have won that, Russia was much more loaded then we were

Yes but they don't play as one Soviet team now was my point....I think Russia still produces the best hockey players.
