My folks just got a new car with Flex fuel and i found out where they can fill up using E-85, which is going for 2.79 a gallon..

Problem is this

<TABLE><TBODY><TR class=even><TH scope=row>3.5L V6 with Variable Valve Timing using gasoline</TH><TD>21/31</TD></TR><TR><TH scope=row>3.5L V6 with Variable Valve Timing using E85 fuel</TH><TD>16/23</TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>

21 miles per gallon in the city on regular gas, 16 with E-85

Can anyone do the math to know at what point the savings equal out what you lose in efficiency?

Fishhead has proclaimed since I met him how certain investments are going to prosper with the ethanol boom and believe he has a few theads in the financial forum on the subject over the past couple of years. Nearly everyday I have to hear about how well the corn market is doing and rural farmland.

When Fish returns from the casino boat tonight I will refer him to your question.

mileage is around 32% better on gas, so compare the costs of the fuel,

i'd like to know at what point the cost = the milage difference...

That should be the REAL indicator.

Multiply the E-85 price by about 1.32 to get what it costs in real gas, that's like paying $3.68 ( or so) for gas, so if gas is under $3.68 its better.

however, the number is a moving target depending on city v. highway miles driven, cost of gas and cost of E85
