Probably meaningless, but who knows... Send it off to congressmen and senators... You never know. Maybe someone with half a brain will get hold of it. Someone in Franks MA district should make sure it gets to him.. (Take out republican if they arent!!!)

US may get a lot of heat in the WTO. Sounds as though Brazil, China, India, and the EU are considering taking Antigua's side.

-----

"As a Republican constituent and voter in your district, I am writing to express my objection to the United States’ withdrawal from the gaming sector (Article 21) of the GATS agreement. This unprecedented withdrawal, made in response to our loss to Antigua in a dispute heard by the WTO over Internet gambling access, will have far-reaching ramifications for the U.S. While the federal government seems to feel there is some driving national interest in legislating the moral beliefs of a few on all Americans by preventing us from playing poker or betting sports online, the fact is that we need the WTO now more than ever. We have many trade disputes worldwide. We need access to markets and other trade controls. We need the WTO to deal effectively with China. Should we sacrifice this to satisfy the very few social conservatives who, despite the lack of even a single negative reference to gambling in the Bible, feel they have to tell OTHERS not to play poker or bet on Sports in their OWN homes on their OWN computers?

I think not.

Please ask President Bush to rescind this withdrawal from GATS. We made the commitment, so we should stick to it. The word of the U.S. should be our bond."

As the elected official representative of my district, I am writing to you in order to express my extreme concern over the United States’ intentions of withdrawing certain obligations contained in Article 21 of the GATS agreement. This action is unprecedented and I am concerned that it will have far-reaching ramifications yet unknown concerning Untied States relations with its neighbors.

The United States has always set the example to follow. By rescinding selective language in an international trade agreement we are opening the door for other countries to do the same.

Please hear my voice when I say that I am AGAINST withdrawing the gaming obligation from the GATS agreement.

Thank you,

here is the response I got back,

Dear constituent,

As you know, the United States is a republic and not a democracy. I was elected to make decisons on your behalf. Please stop wasting my staffs valuable time with your ignorant and misguided opinions about things you do not understand.

I know what I am doing and don't need asswipes like you writting dumbass letters telling me what to do.

thanks for nothing,

I did not write the letter. I pulled it off another site, but thought it is worth sending.

I am not sure why I did not sign my post.

That's funny. Here's the reply I received:

Dear "voter"-

Thank you for taking the time to write to me about your concerns regarding gaming legislation. As you may know, I vote according to how much money is given to me, not according to how many whiny, sniveling "voters" like you bitch and moan about what YOU want. It's always about you isn't it?

Well are you going to pay for my re-election campaign commercials? Those cost millions!! I didn't think so. So why should I listen to someone who took 15 minutes out of their day to write a letter when I can vote according to the people who give me money want me to vote???

Think about it the next time you write a letter. I get hundreds of these each day. The only reason I'm writing you back is because my therapist said I have to respond to my constituents. So stick this reply up your ass.
