WASHINGTON +2.01 over San Diego

Just when everyone thought the Nationals were going to go into the tank again they roll an 11 on the Dodgers and get back into the “W” column. The Nats have been too good over the past three weeks to ignore at this price in their own barn and we’re not about to. Jake Peavy needs no introduction, as this guy has been lights out almost game. However, he is going to lose at some point and this could be the day. Peavy is 0-2 vs the Nationals in his last three appearances against them. Matt Chico has been sharper with each start and was throwing a beauty in his last start in St. Louis before an hour-long rain delay that forced him out. Chico gave up just three hits in four scoreless innings in the Nationals' 7-2 win at St. Louis. The Nats have won in each of Chico’s last three games and overall they’ve won seven of the 11 games he’s started. Price here has big influence on this choice and when we see value like this we’re always going to step in and make no exception in this one. Play: Washington +2.01 (Risking 2 units). <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

Baltimore +1.80 over L.A. ANGELS

Frankly, we don’t really care who’s pitching for the Angels when you consider two things. First, the Orioles are hot, having won six in a row and secondly, when we can take-back +1.80 on Daniel Cabrera you can pencil us in. Cabrera is capable of throwing an absolute gem every time he takes the mound because he has some of the nastiest stuff in the business. In fact, several players and managers will suggest he has the best stuff in the majors and when he learns how to pitch he’ll be as close to un-hittable as any pitcher in a long, long time. He’s only pitched twice on the road this season, at Detroit and Toronto, but that duo hit just .186 off him and he lost them both, once because of a lack of run support and once because of a lack of control (he walked six). Cabrera’s Achilles Heel is his lack of control but again, there are times when he comes out and throws strikes and that’s when he’s one of the top three pitchers in the game. Not saying the Orioles are going to win here, however, we are saying not to bet against Cabrera laying huge juice because he’s too good and it’s very risky indeed. With that in mind, we’ll gladly take-back +1.80 on the Orioles here and watch the Angel backers sweat this one out like madmen. Big overlay. Play: Baltimore +1.80 (Risking 2 units).

BOSTON +1.08 over NY Yankees

Let’s just put this in a little perspective, shall we? The Red Sox are 36-16 and own the best record in the majors, not to mention a 10-game lead after two months. The Yankees are 22-29 and they’re dead last in the division, tied with the same number of wins as the Devil Rays. The Yanks have fewer wins then every team in the AL with the exception of Texas and Kansas City but even those two have just three fewer wins then the Yanks. The Yanks have fewer wins then every team in the NL also with the exception of the Cincinnati Reds, whom has one less win then the Yanks. The Yanks have lost five of six while the Red Sox have won five of six. Then we have Chien Ming Wang, who has not faired well at Fenway, going 1-2 with an ERA of 6.08. Then we have the bullpens, where the Red Sox have a gigantic advantage. When the Red Sox are leading they’ve turned a nine-inning game into a seven-inning game, while the Yanks pen has turned a 2½-hour game into a four-hour game. Lastly, the Red Sox are plowing through their opponents and that’s with little motivation because they have such a big lead already but we all know a visit from the Yanks will get their competitive juices flowing once again. Yanks favored here? C’mon, that’s absolutely ridiculous. Play: Boston +1.08 (Risking 2 units).

SEATTLE –1½ +1.40 over Texas

Even when Kevin Millwood was winning ball games we’ve never had much confidence in this guy. This is Millwood’s 11 th year in the majors and he’s put a ton of mileage on his arm. He’s pitched well over 200 innings in six years and just under 200 in other years and it’s taken its toll. He’s been on the DL twice already this year and will make his first start since May 14. The league is hitting .311 off Millwood and he comes in with a 6.62 ERA in seven starts. The interesting thing about that is the Mariners have already seen him twice this season. The difference between than and now is that the Mariners are smoking at the plate now and have been so for the last month. Furthermore, the Rangers have lost nine of 13 against lefties, they’ve lost 20 of 28 on the road and they have the leagues worst record. The Mariners hung a nine of this sorry franchise last night and they’ve now scored nine runs or more in five of their past eight games for a total of 66 runs over that stretch. Wow, the Mariners are feeling it and this invader is not about to change things up. Play: Seattle –1½ +1.40 (Risking 2 units).

Like The RSx Play A Lot But

using the "due" theory against Peavey right now is not a bet I`m willing to make. Nats one of the 3 worst hitting tms in MLB. And Jake may be the most dominating SP in either league. Granted the price is way out of line for me, so it`s either Pads RL, which I`m not too crazy about, as SD is not exactly a offensive powerhouse. Or pass. I know many will lay -200, I can`t. Like the Blue Jays & also Clev, BOL to you my friend, hope they all hit for you. Leans to SF & Mn.

What are your thoughts on KC/TB? Kazmir isn't THAT dominating to warrent such big chalk like the Rays are today. I think if you combine that thought with the fact that the Rays pen is arguably the worst in the league, the Royals are a good value play tonight. Love the card, good luck Sherwood.

I agree that KC is an overlay but they're just so horrible against lefties (3-13). Still, it's a big price and they can win or should I say TB is capable of losing to anyone at anytime and should never be a 2-1 favorite.

The only reason Wangs ERA is over 6 at Fenway was one bad outing,.. his previous 3 he only surrendered 3 runs over 6 innings..

That Yankee line smells like a trap...

Huge Yankee fan here and I'm baffled as to why they are small faves over the best team in MLB. Think Wang pitches a beauty, that's what the line is telling me. GL and great writeups as always Sherwood.

Nats already beat Peavy once. Padre lineup can be shut down pretty easily too.

Nice card Sherwood.
