Seeking Suggestions---How Do You Control Your Emotions When Gambling?

In all sincerity, I think of myself as a pretty decent gambler and in 95% of the cases my emotions are under control. However, with that being said, whenever I start to hit a losing streak or am on the wrong side of a "bad beat" my emotions go haywire and I begin to go on "tilt". I then deviate from SOUND MONEY MANAGEMENT and my original goals I set.

Can someone offer some sound advice on how they keep their emotions in check and resist going on "tilt" when a losing streak is in progress?

I appreciate any suggstions in advance as I want to continue to learn and believe if I can somehow master my emotions, it will improve my play even more. (my games of choice that i play are sports and craps)

I've controlled it from what I use to do. For one, you have to be able to take a day off. That's where having credit is different from playing offshore. You don't want to pay your credit guy EVER, so you go after the losses before the week ends. Post up people aren't on the clock so it's easier for them to walk away for a day.

I also try to watch the games I bet as little as possible.

Maybe when playing craps and losing, instead of doubling or whatever, take a walk. You sound somewhat together. Maybe that walk will give you your senses back. Also try and reason with yourself, if you lose, do you need to recoup your losses right away? If you don't they'll reposses your house? I'm sure this isn;t the case. My suggestion is to take a walk or do something different for 10 minutes so you could clearly think out the situation instead of making a hasty decision. I wish I listened to my own advice!

For sports bets - I watch few if any games which I have a big bet on.

For live casno games - I've yet to find tilt protection.

Don't bet on games involving teams you love/hate.

Follow your plan.

If you cannot follow your plan, you will wind up like most of all gamblers.

Just like what dimesplayers said. He has a plan. He sticks to it.

Try and not think of the money when you bet.

As regards Craps, the best way to avoid losing is not to play, unless you're a believer/proponent of dice setting.

I only bet systems (although I handicap other sports, just for fun, at the moment), and I try not to watch any of the games that are involved in a system chase where a lot of money is being risked (game 3 and 4 of chases, etc).

On the other hand, I try to watch a lot of the games I handicap (try to stick with a few select teams usually) and really monitor those individual teams, etc.

instead of being on tilt and betting the next game on the board, invest in a styrofoam baseball bat and beat the hell out of the coffee table when a bad beat happens <------works wonders

Listen to me......

get yourself a bankroll, just for sports wagering.....

bet a set amount on a few selected plays daily........ say 2% of bankroll... evaluate it monthly....... raise or lower your bets accordingly...... contribute to bankroll along the way..........

get yourself a notebook,,,,,,, write down your plays starting with #1.... keep looking at the overall picture and not the day to day swings.....

and for me,,,,,, do not watch the games that you wager on...... do your work for the day, turn your wagers in........ and forget it........ simply check the scores from time to time........ use your time to watch other games for scouting purposes...

all you need to do,,,,,,,,, is to be able to hit (57%) against a (-1.10) spread and you can retire wealthy..... if you do not go on tilt.......

Great quote , In 9th grade I turned the ball over at the end of a highschool basketball game which lead to our teams defeat ... I was soo fukking pissed after the game I ended up punching my locker so hard and so many times I fractured 3 knuckles and ended up missing a month ... My Dad told me after the game .... "Next time son , punch a pillow ( and dont fukking turn the ball over !!)... it don't sting back." Well I have used that same quote numerous occasions over the years to many a folk, some of them big time hard asses, only to be laughed and ridulculed over it, However empirically speaking , its the best option if your a violent person ...

I have to watch the games. If you really want to get better then write down exactly what you do and read it over and over..then write down what you need and should be doing and read it over and over. Prepare for that situation and handle it. Or you are doomed. You can do it.

My number 1 advice to anyone is to be prepared for HUGE flucuations in your bankroll/results. If you can not deal with that you have zero chance of success.

I am betting 30+ bets a nite and very very rarley do I get emotional about them but I do get a little excitied late in games that are close but the emotions leave minutes after the game is over.

It would probably best kept in check entirely if you just read the scores after the games were over.
