This question is for the disciplined players on here who bet a small percentage (1%-3%)of their bankroll on games..

I'm curious to know if any of you ever step out of the box and wager a "HUGE" amount on a particular game..

For example let's say you are ahead $7500 for the season basically from $100-$200 bets. Do you ever say "fuck it" let's try to win $2500 and see if we could be ahead 10k or do you "ALWAYS" bet a small % of the bank?

no....thats the purpose of money management......

you can increase your wagers as your bankroll increases....but stepping out like that is a bad move imo...

lots of "sharp gamblers" who look for "value" dont believe in money management....but to each his own...

Always. If I know a line is off or will move I'll make a bigger bet, but always come back over the top to make it a play of the size I wanted by the start.

Never.

My normal bet: 96% of the time
Double that: 3.5% of the time
Triple that: .5% of the time (if that)

That's as high as I go.

I think you misunderstood my post. Betting the slow lines I'm far more likely to be predicting/reacting to line movement than making a mistake. And if I do make a mistake, I still buy back. I don't bet many spreads.

if your an originator thats different....

betting a "soft" line as you perceive it to be....is another matter...why do you think a line is soft...your own database??

or are you following steam....

Steam, but before it's steamed at a non-offshore (UK/European/Asian) out, mostly not major US Sports either.

E.G. Soccer team moves from +100 to -130 at Betfair, I bet +105 at A.N.Other book, the other books are going to trend towards -130, not +100. Extreme example, but the kind of thing I look for.

I don't use a bankroll. It is completely unneccessary. I just use feel to determine my bet size which is usually 500 or so. However, if a line I know more than they do about, like a Husker basketball total play, I will unload for 5 or 10 k which in theory would be that "fuck it" play as you put it. You have to if you are skilled enough to know that the play is that good.

Not if you get the pre-steam prices, at worst you would get an equal profit scalp, by the very definition of steam.. Obviously if you go guessing and hit a spread that moves you're open to the polish, which is why I avoid the spreads when I do touch those sports.

pre-steam????

you mean originator.....

guessing on which side the line moves doesnt always help....especially in baskets, because you get alot of line manipulation...so you have to know the intentions...of bw or the syndicates

Fair enough, I largely ignore the NBA and College Hoops as it coincides with other stuff.

I do MLB, NHL, NCAAF, NFL as far as straight betting goes, in that order.

I do small amounts of NBA and NCAAB, probably more NCAAB.

I do Tennis, Golf, Soccer, Rugby League, Rugby Union and some Australian sports outside of those.

Most of the above aren't with offshore books.

Come September (or possibly October), I'll likely retire from the Winter US Sports, and only do NHL and MLB going forward, along with some non-US stuff that doesn't take much time, as I won't be doing this full-time from then.
