OT: Why is it when people go on vacation they buy stupid shit for people

Had a co worker who just got back from vacation give me the following:

Key Lime tea cookies
Rum Cake
A crushed shell necklace (looks like white gravel on a string)

God damnit if you going to get me something, at least ask me what I may like or go with something universally liked (booze)

Fvck the saying its the thought that counts

A gift is nice, but can be thought out ( the hard part), it doesn't need to appear to have come from the airport gift shop.

When I was a postal worker, I saw something cool from Hawaii. They paint a surf-type scene on a coconut, paint your address on the coconut, then mail it to you, no box or anything,you get it just like that. You don't consume it ( but could), you keep it.

A little thought goes a long way.

I don't like stupid ass gifts !

good friend of mine owns a business selling all those stupid ass souveniors like shot glasses with the name of the city/state/country, shirts, snow globes all that trash. I laughed when he told me he was buying a business like that. He is a multi-millionaire now.

Yeah I worked at the PO, 5 + years as Mailhandler, you gotta problem with dat bud....

I hated that fucking job real bad, made me want to jump really ! It was a good job, all in all. 5+ years was my limit, it was more the people you work with, than the work itself.

Why? Because people are even more stupid when on vacation. Whatever intellect they may possess in their day to day life is mostly left behind when vacation time starts. When they shop for a gift to give, they do one of two things, they buy something that's fun a quirky (but useless and stupid) or they buy something they would like to have.

It's more or less out of guilt because your friends and co-workers are jealous you had a nice vacation somewhere. They are home with their thumbs up their asses sitting around or covering for you at work while you are gone. If you don't get them anything then they probably won't want to hear about what a great vacation it was.
