Same thing happened two weeks ago....Perlozza is a freaking moron....why take out your starter who has thrown 85 pitches and has dominated the game? He's an awful mgr who has no feel for the game.

This kid Guthrie has pitched his ass off and again gets nothing for it...why mgrs automatically take out starters to start the 9th, I will never understand it...let the starter have a chance to win his game, he earned it.

Last time this happened Boston scored 6 in the 9th! Perlozza told Guthrie 'if anyone reaches in the 9th, you're out' Boston gets a man on base because of an error, the kid had a 5 run lead and his pitch count was low then too.

thats funny because i was about to post a thread along the same lines. he totally outpitched beckett a few weeks ago and the orioles couldnt hold a 5-0 lead for him in the 9th. now today he outpitches santana, who is one of the best 'home pitchers' in all of baseball. and ray proceeds to piss away the lead in 2 batters. ill tell you what, the indians are starting to look foolish for giving up on guthrie so early in his career despite the inconsistencies he had. the orioles made a very savvy pickup and could reap the benefits from a kid who was one of the best players in the nation in college. he deserves 2 more wins on his record for sure.

Talk shows around here were calling for his head after the Boston game, and I'm sure it will be the same tomorrow....I turned it on thinking 'okay he will surely let this kid try and pitch the 9th today' WTF is this, push button managing crap...is rationale is moronic, why can't a closer come i to a real save situation anymore?

This 'automatic' 9th inning managing is just ridiculous and defies real logic, you KNOW what your starter has done, you do not know what your reliever will have in any case....Guthrie is on fire, poor kid, how much do you lose between inning 8 and 9 anyway?

If he had thrown 85 pitches after 7 innings he would have pitched the 8th , but since it was the '9th' we must take him out, stupid, .retarded , bullshit.

How bout a manager have some balls and start a new trend and let his pitcher finish what he starts- if he's capable..85 pitches???

And Perlozza telling Guthrie 'if anyone reaches you are out' in the 9th of Boston game where Balto led 5-0 was beyond belief...why he would even tell him (even if it was his plan) is ridiculous....I am so mad over this and I didn't have a cent on this game....he calls himself a manager?

Cracks me up when I hear, 'he's going by the book' (going to his closer automatically) So i guess it's virtually impossible for a guy to come along in this day and age of technology and advancement and pitch all 9 innings...the 'book' has serious flaws, and what happened to the original book? What was wrong with that book?

I believe if Guthrie had pitched 7 innings and threw 85 pitches he would have pitched the 8th...so why not allow him to pitch the 9th with 85?

And then watching the closer Chris Ray talk after the game lol, these players just don't react to failing like they use to...act like you care atleast.

This Recent Bullshit Change In How You are Suppose to Pitch is the most Overrated bunch of shit I ever heard in My life .....Could you imagine Trying To Take Out a Gibson , plamer, Seaver ,or Carlton if They only Threw 85 pitches ?

no wonder There are So Many injuries to pitchers nowadays ?...they don't Have the stamina of Reeel pitchers 20 years ago ....." we Gotta bring in our set Up Guy...then , we Gotta Bring in our Closer !"...WHAT a Bunch of shit ! WE Need Reeel Managers !

Rumor Mill been all over Daveys Return

Yup, heard this too. It'd be fantastic to see Angelos swallow his pride and re-hire Johnson, who was fired on the same day he was named MLB's best manager in his last season with the O's.

Hopefully he's back to 100% healthy, cuz the guy can flat-out coach. Freakin love that guy.

If not him, some desperate team needs to hire Frank Robinson. Guy deserves a chance to coach a competitive team. He gets the most out of his players, he's old-school, and his unorthodox handling of a rotation isn't necessarily a bad thing.

As if Frank Robby wouldn't have won 5 WS rings in NYY pinstripes, he's still as apssionate as ever it seems, i would love to see Frank get a shot with some real talent...his best jobs were with teams that lacked top talent, he did an amazing job with the 1989 Orioles.

I still think the coolest thing he ever did was homer in his first AB as player manager, in his first game with Cle in 1975....What a decorated career, which includes the only homer that left Memorial Stadium completely, a triple crown, MVP awards in both leagues, 1st black manager . How can you not root for him?

didn't frank robinson also do a great job with sfran giants in 79 or 80 ?...I Think He's an excellent Coach with losin teams gettin them to a certain level, but he doesn't seem to sustain that level...i mean, he's never taken a team to the playoffs yet or completely have a long term plan to rebuild a team ....i'd be curious to c how does in NY or balt.

That dumbass cost me 1k while I was in Vegas by doing the same bullshit a couple of weeks ago. Beddard had a 2 hitter going with 14k's while throwing only around 98 pitches through 7 innings against Washington and what does Perlozza do? Beddard doesn't come out to pitch the 8th and the O's blow a 3-1 lead losing 4-3 as the bullpen yields 3 runs that inning. I hope that jackass gets fired soon.
