$36 fee for a $400 transaction? Seems excessive...

Maybe I'll stick to Moneygram.

yes 36 is about right, but most books will cover your transaction fee.

Never used it for a book yet. Just a person-to-person thing. I figured the take % would be like 2-3%, not close to 10%. Oh well, at least I know now.

Didn't know if I was getting ripped off by some fees on the side from the place where I went. Thanks for answering.

My experience with WU is 6%. 9% is on the high side, but not that unusual. Where the money is sent seems to determine how much it costs.

Individual stores do sometimes rip you off sometimes. One time I was sending about $100 in a person-to-person money transfer and a store charged me like $50-60 just for fees. A few weeks later I go across the street to another store and they only charge like $9 for fees for a $120 money transfer or something close to that.
