What happens if you have a dispute with a local ?

no paper ticket like Vegas

no phone recording

no ticket number/ screenshot/ website

Do they(locals) keep computer records or just use notebooks or something ?

It would seem they have potential for a lot of errors.

I sure wouldn't expect phone recordings, but they have to keep track of bets somehow.

I had a dispute over a large sum which was not recorded and was settled by us absorbing half each.

Yes I'm lucky to have a very easy going and compromising guy. I usually request two weeks to settle but sometimes I'll ask for 3 to 4 weeks with no problem. He even helps me with info on what the betting public is on.

buy 31 cassette tapes start numbering at one and go to 31. each day of month pop in a new one that is that days number(date)

50 buck tape recorder from radio shack hooked to phone starts taping as soon as phone is picked up or press record on readback.

pays for itself in one day!

and for the guys that think they may be smart and wait several days to call back they don't realize you still have the tape of that day or the month for that matter :dancefool

I used to have one who wrote everything, didn't record. Wish he did, he fked up a large bet of mine once which of course I won and he had as a loss. I know without a doubt I was correct, of course we both felt we got shafted. Neither payed, never used him again (we both came to an agreement on this).

When dealing with a competent local, 95% of mistakes are made by the player. On the other hand, I've dealt with locals who couldn't add 2+2 or grade a simple ticket correct. Believe it or not, there is a certain appitude involved to be successful.

better that way and especially if your local has hired help.

On of my locals takes bets by text message. I love it; text amount and line, and he texts back "got it" immediately. It takes a time stamp and saves a record for at least a week, when it's settle-up time.

I guess the tape is the answer, as much as you don't want that evidence around. I guess I was wrong, thought they wouldn't use that, but you need something for disputes.
