Ok, so I just want to get my facts straight. I'm also bored as hell:
In 2003, Riley resigns suddenly and turns the team over to Stan the Man Van Gundy. SVG takes them to the second round of the playoffs. Not bad considering it's his 1st head coaching gig and he got it like the week before the season starts.
Next season, Stan the Man takes them to game 7 of the Eastern Conference Finals. They lose to the Pistons.
All of a sudden Riley wants to coach again, kicks SVG out of the head coaching spot, and makes him a "consultant". Riley takes the glory and the championship. Then the team starts to suck, and all of a sudden Riley starts feeling his old age, takes time off during their sub-par season to recuperate, they don't do so well.
So at this point, Stan Van Gundy has literally come out of nowhere to steer this team to the playoffs and set them up for a championship. Riley dicks him over by taking over as head coach.
Now, Stan interviews for the Orlando job, accepts it, and Riley DEMANDS compensation since SVG is a "consultant" for the Heat and still under contract. Gets a 2nd round pick and future considerations.
All in all, not a big deal, but to me it seems like a dick move by Riley. Why can't you just let the guy go and wish him luck. Instead, he holds up contract negotiations and again, tries to dick over his former assistant.
I just don't get it. I hate Pat Riley.
