If you were starting an NBA franchise from scratch. And could pick 1 player to build your team around who would it be?

my pick - D Wade

Wade has already shown he has what it takes to win a nba title pretty much by himself. He has been clutch and can take over games. He gets to the free throw line frequently and is a finisher.

2. Greg Oden

3. Lebron James

Wade is a horrible pick. Don't get me wrong, I love Wade and was confident he'd be excellent out of Marquette, but to start a franchise???

Most GMs will go center or PF. Or Lebron. 100% sure not a single GM would take Wade if asked this question.

Amare, Dwight Howard, Duncan, Yao, and Oden would all be ahead on the list IMO.

nash before Wade??

wade is, of course, a better player. but id take nash before wade to start a team. now would nash make a bunch of COMPLETE scrubs a playoff team? im not sure. but id still take my chances with him before wade in that respect. to me, the jury is still out on wade. he was incredibly fortunate to have shaq help him win a title. and now ill give him an incomplete for this years debacle simply because he wasnt healthy. to me, the real wade is somewhere in between the 2006 and 2007 version.

The Heat wouldn't trade Wade for Lebron straight up right now if they could...

Wade is a better basketball player... The media will continue to hype up Lebron James and I will continue to pick Wade. He comes up big in every big game and comes up big in every big situation... He is not a hit or miss player in those spots... He won an NBA title last year pretty much by himself, and with the help of a few REfs, and he proved he has the killer instinct.

At this point in his career he is right about where Mike was but a level lower... He is a guy who will work hard as he can each day and off season to better himself. He came into the league with no jump shot... Now he has the best Bank shot for a guard in the nBA... and a great fade away jumper... He gets to the line and is the most explosive player in the NBA... he can take anyone to the hole...

Only thing holding Wade down is his shoulder and his height... if he were 6'6 he would be on another level above Lebron... His defense is also very underrated... If I am starting a team I am going wtih the quiet superstar who is young and super athletic but has that killer instinct... I said it on draft day, although a little biased, Dwayne Wade will have more rings then Lebron James when they both retire...

So far I am winning 1-0... And don't bring up the Shaq debate I don't want to get into how he didn't play any minutes in the finals and was lost on the court.

This is all my opinion and I can understand someone taking Lebron. But as a GM I am taking Wade.

Also John Paxson was asked this question and he responded with, you mean someone who isn't a BUll of course, and responded with Dwayne Wade... Steve Kerr, who is now the GM of the Suns, also said Wade... They both said to start a team or take one of the two now they would take Wade. They said they played Next to Mike and he is the closest thing the league has seen since... He has the heart and desire of Mike and his game isn't half bad... So there are 3 GM's right there... Paxson, Kerr and Riley

Seems teaming Shaq up with a good player win championships. The Heat were average when Shaq showed up, then they won it all. Lakers were winning championships with Shaq there, he leaves, they are average. Shaq is the reason Wade and Kobe have rings. Wade and Kobe are great players, but Shaq was the main guy that got those teams over the hump.

For what it's worth, I liked what the Heat were building with Wade, Odom, and Caron Butler before the trade. I had them to win it all the year before the Shaq trade went down.

Dominant centers win championships for the most part. The Pistons with Ben Wallace were a little off-norm, but if you look back, a team with a top 3 NBA center wins a majority of the championships... I know Duncan plays PF but he's really a C. Duncan and Shaq win championships.

7 of the last 8. This era is all about the center. Jordan is the only guy who has really done well without a dominant center.

I think we saw the last few years for Kobe and this year for Wade how important missing that big man is. Weren't the Heat like a .500 team without Shaq this year?

No false... Wade wasn't 100% at all towards the end of the year... The Heat didn't lose because Shaq wasn't 100% they lost because Wade wasn't...

That is far from dominating or far from Shaq like. Wade won that series... Not Shaq... That team is Wade's team...

Was he healthy for November when the Heat went 6-and-8?
Or December when they went 7-and-8?
Or January when they went 7-and-8?

When Shaq came back at the start of February, even with a dinged Wade, the Heat went 24-14 the rest of the regular season.

Umm, do you realize how much attention Shaq gets? Without Shaq, Wade doesn't get the same open looks. Shaq doesn't need the stats to help his team win...
