I really would like to see how much the ratings jumped with LeBron playing. Thanks.

I watched the game and am a fan of the Spurs. But this seriesh as so little fanfare. I am guessing that the ratings were atrocious. They HAVE to be lower than last year. I guess that it helps that summer is here and people who have school seasoned jobs are out for summer.

But the ratings almost have to be lower than last year

No one gives a damn about this series since most people think that the Spurs will sweep the Cavs

I know Cle has LeBron but this isn't a marquee team IMO...San Antonio is a boring team too, they are fine if they're complimented with a team like the old Lakers or a team like Phoenix...this series matchup=boring ...

If Cle doesn't make a game of game 2 this series may go down as least viewed .

b/c (i) the NBA sucks; (ii) no one cares about either team outside of their own city; and (iii) everyone knows SA will run them.

I would imagine this series will be horrible for the ratings - both cities are small markets - neither have nationwide appeal - and the most popular player was completely ineffective in game 1 - it was as if he did not play - add to the fact that most think the Cavs have no realistic chance of winning the series - after Dallas chocked everyone knew the finals was in round 2 - until they take the top 8 teams record wise from the East and West and then seed them like the NCAA's you get finals like LA/Philly, LA/Nets, SA/Nets and SA/Cavs.

The Mavs should have been the #1 seed playing the Wizards or GS in round 1, with SA and the Suns being the #2 and #3 - at least then SA and the Suns would have met in the confernce finals - the Eastern Confernce has consistently sent teams to the finals that have no chance in hell of winning - other than DT and Miami - all the other teams were jokes - and when DT and Miami won it all the finals' series was good - it was not like it was a lay up for them - I can't tell you the worst team to ever play for an NBA championship but I am certain it's between the 76'ers, Cavs and Nets (2x albeit).

How about NYK in 99, an 8 seed.

Seeding regardless of conference is an interesting idea. At a minimum they should re-seed like the NHL does for round 2. That would have given us SA/GS and Phoe/Utah for a SA/Phoe conference finals. Once GS and Phoe were bounced, ratings dropped drastically. GS for the gritty underdog and their ridiculous style of play and Phoe b/c they are the most entertaining team and are good. Also think the stupid suspensions turned some people off.

Cleveland is a small market which will make it hard to compete without getting a huge home market

see post #10.

Additionally, at least for me, the first 43 minutes of the game are either irrelevant or make the last 5 minutes of the game irrelevant. You get one of two things (i) a blow out during the first 43 minutes which makes the rest of the game boring and irrelevant; or (ii) a close game which makes the first 43 minutes that you just watched boring and irrelevent. If you were to tune into a basketball game with 5 minutes left, you wouldn't have missed anything. The game is either over or you can watch all of the good part of the game.

That game is also too disjointed with too many stops and starts and commercials. No flow to the game. I really noticed this since I have started watching soccer more and more.

I realize many of you find soccer mind-numbingly boring, but virtually ever game could be decided on literally any kick. The entire game is relevent to the outcome and with the nature of the game (low and close in score) teams are rarely blown out to the point the rest of the game doesn't matter. The game also is constantly moving and flowing, no time outs, few and short stoppages, tension in every play due to the close score.

I guess there will always be upsets - but seeding the teams reduces the chances of getting the recent finals we have had.
