Ran a separate thread about Birmingham last week and trying not to be too repititious , but wanting to move from the Tex area to the South. Have been checking out each Summer for the Golf and overall friendliness and the south just can't be beat. Hoping someone from Charleston area or S.C area might chime in with their opinions. Access to locals, local opinions on gambling in the area. Whether classified as misdemeanor or class 3 felony, cost of living etc.

highway systems really messed up their due to lack of education with south carolina schools and shoddy engineers

ranks right up there w/ Arkansas, La., etc

other than that, Hilton Head is where it's at and being a Cock is 2nd to none

Charleston Area

Just came back from the Hilton Head area and did love the Golf and restuarants. Have heard it is hell to get around when Summer hits however, due to all the kids going to the beach. Have you been there all year round?

I live in the Charleston area close to the beach. Of course I am biased, but I have traveled and lived in many cities and nothing comes close to Charleston.

You can get my email from a Mod and ask me any questions. Ill be in office on Monday to respond.

Like Paterno, I went to school in Charleston and think of it as my adopted hometown. Great place to live, but little or no gambling there. Ironically, that's one of the reasons I went to school there-- I needed to get the hell out of Boston and six nights a week at the dog track, etc.

No doubt Paterno. Spent one year there and it has a little of everything. Beach, colleges, chics, nightlife, golf, golf, golf..cant vouch for the betting as I was not gambling back then...

Charleston Area

I think it is one of the prettiest area's in the country and the people could not be any nicer, however you might be surprised in some parts of the country if you bring up gambling you are one step below a pedophile. I would sure want to check out the general outlook and perception and also penalties before i moved. That downtown area cannot be beat, just to :banger: walk around at night.

Gambling is tough in the Bible belt. The lottery is only a few years old and you would have thought that the devil himself was going to appear in Columbia on the day that it started. It took me until junior year to find a local back in the mid 80's.

I was in Charleston for Memorial Day weekend and, you're right, nothing beats hanging out downtown on a warm spring/summer night unless you're riding through the College of Charleston on a spring afternoon. Both are great.

Overall quality of life and cost of living is good in Charleston. I live in Florida now, but my wife and I plan to retire there when the time comes.

I lived in Charleston for 3 years.. HATED IT.. Nothing to do there.. The closest gambling is on the boats in Myrtle Beach. Economy there sucks as well.

Wish i was going with you. Got back about three weeks ago from there.Being a history and Golf buff, could not get enough of the area. Spent three days in Savannah, went out to Hilton Head for a week of Golf and good food then went to Charleston for two weeks of more of the same. Just love the area. But i can see it's not for everybody.:toast:

I could never live in the bible belt personally - I like being around open-minded, educated people.

I live in Savannah and love it. All my life, I kept saying I can't wait to get outta this city, but when I l moved to Auburn, Could not wait to get back here. Love the parks and squares here, I live 10 min from the beach, and Several golf courses in the city. Not to mention only 30 min from Hilton Head, where there are a ton of courses. I wouldn't live anywhere else. We also have a gambling boat that goes offshore. What do you do for a living, that would be the hard part about here, its still kinda good ole boyish, where it not what you know, but who you know.

No problem. I'm happy to help. Paterno is a current resident, but I'll do what I can.
