Liquid Lunch Etiquette

I have always been under the impression that when an employee has a liquid lunch they quit before they reach the point of intoxication, however; today I have at least 3 employees who came back to work hammered.

Definition of hammered:
1. Talking at raised decibels not ever heard from their mouths.
2. The perpetual grin.
3. Discussion of subject matter really not suitable for work environment.

I refuse to bust them on this because; A)I have been known to tie one on occassionally with colleagues and definitely customers and B)everyone needs a little slack.

So question: How many drinks will you have at lunch, having to go back to work, before you cut yourself off? And if you do go over the threshold, do you return to work?

A good question but hardly one for a forum full of self-employed sit on a PC knocking out scalps and generally being Sharp type People.

Not sure what your employees do for you, but I would have either fired them or sent them home. I would assume they did not have any customer contact or run any equipment?

I've had 8 Coronas and 3 glasses of Shiraz but finished my Betting ages ago. Early night as saturday is the biggest betting Day of the Week and I have to have My Marbles co-ordinated. Once Tomorrows betting is over, head-phones on and excess drink.

for me, one beer and I can still work, two beers and I can work for a little while and then am worthless and leave. Never had more than 2 while at work but I would just go home if I did.

I've never understood the liquid lunch concept unless you're taking the afternoon off. After a beer or two, the last thing that I want is to be sitting in the office.

Nothing worse than trying to shake out the cobwebs with 3 hours to go before quitting time.

Some people just booze. I will only do it if I am with a client and they want to drink or, perhaps, on a Friday when I plan to leave early anywhere. However, there is a dude I work with that just boozes at lunch. He will down two tall sakes at sushi without thinking about it and maybe chase it with a beer. I had a college professor who, if you had him before lunch, was great, after lunch, he was completely wrecked.

Different generation, the older dudes just did it and never stopped.

No heavy equipment. No customer contact. The worst thing they could do is wreck some code. It is Friday and it is proving to be an unsalvagable day.

2 beers? even I could have 3 maybe 4 and wouldn't feel it and I drink once, twice a year...

are you a lightweight? :toast:

No, but there is a difference between "feeling it" and wanting to work thereafter. It isn't my ability to work, it is my desire to work, that leaves after two beers. I don't "feel" two beers in the sense that I am buzzed, but I "feel" it in the sense that I have no interest in being at work and don't want to work.

working for someone else blows. most people do a half ass job regardless on fridays. so you might as well do a half ass job semi-drunk.

have some buddies who are car dealers and they stay fouled up all the time at work. drinks at lunch then vodka the rest of the day. i guess i would have to do something to keep me going if i had to stand around all day long too.
