If done correctly gambling should be somewhat boring

Read this statement on another forum by a prominent poster and totally agree with it.

If you are sweating games, worrying about daily results, or complaining about bad beats than you most likely are not winning at a serious rate.

Not to come across a know it all and I will be the first to admit my heart beats a little differently late in the game with the results still in the balance but this is something you have to be able to handle if you want to win.

I took a buddy of mine under my wing during hoops season and he did okay. The thing is he should have won some decent money but his emotions always ended up getting in the way as he took evrything a little too serious.

Been playing some serious poker for about a week and have done fairly well and I attribue it mostly to being not emtional about it. Easier said than done but keeping it almost boring is very important for success.

I dont think I would use the word boring - yes, you need to be able to keep your emotions in check so you can focus on your next bet or next opportunity and not chase your losses.

I would compare it to being a professional athlete - let's say Tim Duncan and Rasheed Wallace. Both complain a lot, but Duncan usually keeps his composure while Wallace freaks out. If they were on the RX, Timmy would probably post his plays and keep a detailed record and Sheed would start a million threads about bad beats and conspiracies etc.

I wouldnt say its boring just under control.

Ice, I think boring is the wrong word but totally agree with you on emotions. Show me a bettor always complaining or saying "I shoulda" then he is probably a loser. Emotions have to be kept at a minimum or you wont be able to withstand the losing streaks as we all know always happens at one time or another. Not crying about losing anymore definitely made me a better player.

Iceman, boring gambling is an oxymoron, people gamble for excitement whether they realize that or not. What you other "advantage gamblers" do is NOT gambling.

Finally no questions and you come up with a Home Run, congrats. Successfull Betting or investment as some call it is boring, tediously so. The only thrill or rush is in the fact that you were right and plenty were wrong, especially pre-empting price changes.

Successful gambling can be boring but not necessarily so. A good bettor can make informed bets and still be entertained. Even if a bettor hits 60%, his/her bets are still very much in question.

I agree, Iceman.

I played 3 poker tournaments at Foxwoods this spring. The first one, I bluffed, went all in, played a lot of hands, HAD FUN AND LOST.

The other two, I took my iPod with me, listened to music, didn't chit-chat, paid attention, played the percentages (and a few reads) and was in the money both times ... but on the ride home, I was mentally exhausted and it wasn't fun ... I didn't celebrate ... all I had in me was a sigh of relief.

These days, my MLB wagers are SO SMALL compared to my bankroll, that I don't even cheer for the team that I have money on. The other day, I had Seattle, they were winning, and I wanted the other team to tie it so that Ichiro (who was 0-fer) could come up to bat and get a chance to extend his hitting streak.

You have to make a choice ... do you want to win or do you want the boner?

You can have both. As long as you make the bet for the right reasons, you can still sweat the outcome and enjoy the rush.

My wagers are 1% of my bankroll and sometimes smaller - hardly enough to give me a rush.

Like Winbet said, the rush is when you make 3-4 max wagers on a team because you anticipate line-movement ... and the damn line doesn't move all afternoon.

The first month I started gambling, I sweated every game for $10 and loved every minute of it. Then it wore off, and I don't get excited much anymore. I hear you, but at the same time, betting on college football will always be a rush. College football Saturdays are the best 12 days of the year. Betting on them only enhances the feelings of euphoria.
