Seattle +1.47 over CLEVELAND

Yeah, like we’re going to pass on the Mariners taking back close to 3-2 against Paul Byrd. Perhaps in another lifetime but not in this one in this spot. All the Mariners have been doing for the past six weeks is scoring like madmen and winning very consistently. Seattle has won 14 of its last 18 and since April 23 they have the majors best record with 32 wins and 13 losses. Furthermore, over their last 18 games they’ve scored six or more runs (usually more) in 12 of those and that includes 16 over the weekend, all wins, at Petco Park, undoubtedly the stingiest park in the big leagues. This intruder is on fire and we don’t see Paul Byrd slowing them down. The league has hit .308 off him, as he’s allowed 82 hits in 64 innings. He’s escaped major damage for the most part because he throws strikes but the man is a very average starter indeed. Cha Seung Baek isn’t much better but he is coming on a bit and we have seen him pitch very effectively at times. Anyway, this has nothing to do with playing on Baek. It has everything to do with playing on the sizzling Mariners against Byrd with an extremely generous price attached to it. Overlay. Play: Seattle +1.47 (Risking 2 units). <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

NY METS -1.11 over Los Angeles

Orlando Hernandez has been nothing short of brilliant all season long and in fact there hasn’t been a pitcher more efficient then he over the first two months of the year. Hernandez has surrendered a dazzling 29 hits in 51 frames and has not allowed a single earned run in three of his last four starts. The opposition has hit just .173 off him and the Dodgers almost always have trouble scoring against quality starters. It’s also worth noting that the Dodgers are second last in the majors in homeruns and that makes Hernandez and the Mets even more appealing. Randy Wolf gave up eight hits and five runs at San Diego in his last start and it would appear that he’s wearing down a bit. Wolf has now been roughed up in two straight starts. Remember, Wolf has spent significant time on the DL over the past two years, starting just 13 games in ‘05 and just 12 last season. His durability or stamina if you will is definitely in question and these Metropolitans can definitely take advantage of a tiring pitcher. The Mets can bash and in fact tey’re coming off successive seven run outputs in Detroit over the weekend. Not customary for is to play a favorite but this one is cheap enough and looks very strong indeed. Play: NY Mets –1.11 (Risking 2.22 units to win 2).
