Guy has been unhittable the last month and has great stuff/speed. He just doesn't seem to be able to handle the closer's role mentally.

Lidge isn't garbage? As a closer he is worse than garbage, he is toxic flaming garbage.

He was the best closer in baseball 2 years ago, and has been very good this year. He gave up a run in the 9th. It happens.

are you joking?
Not at all. Lidge has done a lot to comeback from his struggles. He gave up a 500 foot homerun to Albert, and it obviously shook his confidence. Then he lost his closer job. He didn't pout, and has proved all the hecklers wrong. So wake the fuck up.

He proved them wrong by blowing his first save chance since losing his job by giving up a HR, double and a wild pitch? Doesn't take much to please some people.

I guess John Maine sucks then, because he gave up two homers in one inning. Man, that guy fucking sucks.

LOL at this analogy. Has John Maine consistently blown dick at being a starting pitcher? Has he been put in the pen multiple times and then brought back into the Mets rotation, only to go back to giving up homers after homers? No. Brad Lidge has proven time and time again he isn't a closer.

Even if you think he isn't a good closer, that doesn't make him garbage. He is a very good pitcher, and in the closing role, there was nobody better 2 years ago. People like you and primetime think he sucks if he gives up a run in the 9th. Jury is still out on whether he will close games out in the future. But he's going to make a shitload of money on his next contract, and to say he's garbage makes you sound like a degenerate in the Stardust betting money that he begged for on the streets.

I'd say Illinois winning the Big 10 title this year would be a bigger idiotic statement then saying Lidge is garbage, but ok.

I admitted that it was a longshot, and only said it to stir up discussion. They will be the most improved team in the country, and people are going to lose a lot of money fading them and expecting them to go 2-10.

The Illini have talent, had a great recruiting class. But to say they will prove to be the best team out of OSU, Michigan, Wiscy, or Penn State is a REALLY big reach. They should reach a bowl game.

I tend to agree with Illini on Lidge. Easy for the masses to have a circle jerk and pile on Lidge. It is one blown save since taking the role back. Even if he cannot mentally close he is a very good pitcher in some role.
