Ted Williams and Babe Ruth dominate the ranking Best MLB hitter ever on rankopedia, with Ty Cobb way behind. I personally think that Ruth was the greatest but I'd be interested in hearing your opinion.

there is always the "what if factor" with ted williams. What if he didn't serve in two wars during his prime and what if he had the short porch in yankee stadium. No question ted was the best hitter of all time, buth ruth seems to get the nod as the best player.

RUTH 117 Stolen Bases Williams 24,

Ruth misses 4 years of full time batting STATS while being a full-time pitcher.
RUTH ERA 2.28 Williams ERA 4.50 LOL.
Compare World Series stats the guys are not even close.

Williams has the best OBP ever to his credit and missed several (4) years in his prime due to his service to the country, and 2 more later as well in his prime, 6 seasons.

Still with RUTH as best player (hitting and itching). Williams could be arguably the best hitter ever IMO.

5 Team I Agree

Teddy is my all time fav.! Was he the best certainly debatable even w/me. But you CAN`T ignore those yrs he missed 4 of them right in his prime, probably another 150 HR right there. All the while playing in arguably THE worst park at the time for a LH hitter. JoeD same, terrible for a RH hitter. I never liked Aaron, but give him his due. The most underrated great hiter of all time. I loved Willie, but his stats don`t come close to Aaron`s, except for his singe over 50 HR rec`d, BA, RBI, Runs, Aaron leads. My ranking would be #1 TW, 2 Ruth, 3 Aaron.

I cant even believe this is a discussion.
Babe Ruth is the best ever no doubt about it.
Not only was he hitting more homeruns a year than most TEAMS he also was a great pitcher for 4 years!!
Best pure hitter was Joey D. I believe Williams would ell you that too only his head is chopped off and frozen somewhere.
