Didn't the same thing happen to him in Cleveland? Must be a jackass to the players and/or management.

yeah blame him because Nomar has 1 home run.

"Eddie did a great job. Eddie's a great hitting coach, Eddie had a great career. Right now, we need more results."

The Dodgers led the NL with a .276 batting average and a .348 on-base percentage last year -- Murray's first as their hitting coach -- and reached the playoffs as the NL wild-card team. They're 38-28 and a half-game behind the NL West-leading San Diego Padres despite hitting just .261 and averaging 4.4 runs per game.
The 51-year-old Murray is one of only three players in big-league history to get 3,000 hits and hit 500 homers. A switch hitter who spent most of his career with the Baltimore Orioles, he played for the Dodgers from 1989-91 and again in 1997 before retiring with 3,255 hits and 504 homers.

cant speak for the dodgers situation but he was NOT well liked by the indians players when he was here. obviously murray is a hall of famer who certainly knows the game well but it became common knowledge that he is a horrible communicator and very abrasive. even some of the better indians players couldnt relate to him. it became more of a pressure thing. if im not mistaken, the indians hit 10 or 15 points higher as a team after murray was released and shelton took over. guys were more comfortable and they really started hitting well. im going to guess the dodgers situation was very similar to the cleveland situation.

Yes Eddie Murray was fired from Clevealnd a couple of years ago and was told he is like a drill seargent and the players didnt respond to him or like him for that matter. Also when he was fired here the team batting average was near the bottom in the AL and he was the scape goat when the Indians got off to a bad start.I think this happened in 2005 because after that they took off and almost caught the White Sox on the last day of the season but failed when they lost to them.Gravy

I can see where this could be a generational gap thing...Murray is all business and as old school as they come, not many players understand the game like he does.

All you have to do is go back to the players he played with and his teammates and they will tell you what kind of guy he was....

In fact he was the only MLB player Cal Ripken mentioned in his 2131 speech, it doesn't take much imagination to realize that maybe todays players aren't going to stand for an old school guy like Murray- who demanded respect without saying much....I really thought he would make a great manager someday- but maybe the players today are just too spoiled.

Murray reminds me so much of Frank Robinson, both great baseball men...Frank has softened over the yrs, he made the adjustment or he wouldn't have been managing in 2006, it doesn't look like Eddie has, what else could it really be?

Just because a player is a legend does not automatically translate to being a good coach. In fact, some of the best are natural hitters who did very little study of pitchers or mechanics. No wonder they can't communicate. I bet he is a very bad coach.

jman, i never said murray wasnt a legend nor did i ever say anything about him as a player... all i said is that it was a known fact that he has trouble coaching players, maybe he was just unable to teach these arrogant athletes, and when the dodgers were in town (pittsburgh) a couple weeks back, i was told that it was a matter of time, as i was told before the year started that he would have problems... it happened because he doesnt mesh well with his players for whatever reason... has nothing to do with his credentials because he was a great baseball player... there are bad baseball players that make great manager/coaches and vice versa... btw, it has nothing to do with the dodgers organization sucking for 20 years because it didnt work out with a hitting coach... plain and simple it just didnt work out for what im sure are many reasons...

Funny thing is his teammates loved him and respected him...I think it has more to do with the generation gap and whole lack of respect this Gen X has.

Murray will never win a nice guy competition that is for sure, but he's one of the smartest in-game players you will ever come across.

There is a generation gap between every hitting coach and the players. As a matter of fact, there is probably a smaller gap between him and most hitting coaches. He is probably average age for a hitting instructor.
