I'm referring to the Baltimore Orioles who have one of the higher payrolls in the Majors. Tonight, at home, they are on the verge of being swept by the Washington Nationals, a team that is not one one of your typical contenders in the Majors. As I've watched this game off and on this evening, the Orioles have had numerous opportunities to blow this match wide open on several occasions, but they cannot close out a potential rally with the key blow to put their continuous woes in perspective. They've had the bases loaded with one out, they've had runners at first and second with none out on two separate occasions but in all three instances have failed to produce even one single run, as they trail 2-1. They appear to be getting decent pitching from their starting staff on most nights, but it seems many of the so-called overpaid players the organization went out and purchased have failed to produce for the club when called upon, particularly in key situations. This team has been on the losing end of things game after game and season after season for a long time, too long for an organization that once went toe to toe the the Yankees and Red Sox. Now they're very fortunate to compete with the so-called doormats of the Majors year after year. Clearly a tough team to figure out on most nights, let alone most seasons to say the least. :think2:
