why does baseball draft over 1000 kids every year? Is a senior pitcher at The University of Miami supposed to be excited that he was drafted in the 34th round by the Chicago Cubs as the 1,024th pick.

How good could the 1,024th overall draft pick be? How many friggen players are elligible for the draft?

Just guessing, but a TON of the HS or Juco or 3rd year college guys never sign and end up going to or oback to college in the hopes of being drafted higher. They also have to fill like 8 teams when you combine AAA, AA, a couple of A teams and rookie league teams. Still, I am sure, over doing it, but that is the only logical reason I can think of.

I think they have even more rounds than that, Piazza was drafted in something like the 62nd round.
