Remember Ainge and McHale are really good buddies so have to think they have talked about a trade at some point.

This would give the T-wolves the #5 and #7 pick in the draft this year and start a rebuilding program the current roster is not going to win a championship for Garnett but Im not sure Boston would either

From what I'm hearing -- and at this point it's just a hot rumor -- the Wolves and Boston Celtics talking about a Garnett deal.

In this scenario, Boston would send Al Jefferson, Gerald Green, Sebastian Telfair, Theo Ratliff, and change to Minnesota along with the No. 5 pick in the upcoming draft.

In exchange, the Celtics would get Garnett.

While a six-for-one trade would create some awkward roster dilemmas, it could work for Boston in this case because the Celtics would be giving up only one member of their core Jefferson. Meanwhile, the Timberwolves would get an emerging low-post star, a wing player with a lot of upside, another high draft pick and future cap flexibility.

On Saturday, I spoke with Celtics vice president Danny Ainge about the rumor, and he replied that he would not comment on trade discussions. He did say that the Celtics were talking with a lot of teams at the moment about a number of different trade scenarios, but that none of them were close to happening.

One could argue that the Celtics would be better off trading Paul Pierce and continuing to create a younger team. But if they are committed to keeping Pierce and trying for more immediate success, the Garnett deal would make sense for the Celtics. A combination of Garnett and Pierce would make the Celtics instant contenders in the Eastern Conference.

Even if the Wolves could come to an agreement with the Celtics (or another team) on which players should be involved in a Garnett deal, there are some logistical and risk issues that might kill such a deal.

For Minnesota, Garnett won't be easy to trade to any team.

Garnett is due to be paid $22 million next season, and he could be owed about $3 million more than that because his trade kicker is 15 percent.

That makes the mere act of balancing salaries a challenge in any Garnett trade, given the restrictions of the collective bargaining agreement.

On the other hand, to make a trade work under the collective bargaining agreement, Garnett would be allowed to waive part of his trade kicker, if he so chose.

Celtic fan here. Ainge must die if this happens. Telfair and Ratlif are garbage, but Jefferson has improved immensely, and Green has much potential. Throwing in a 5 pick is just stupid. Garnett is way overrated in my opinion.

Well you know I'm a C's fan too. Jefferson is the one guy hard to give.

Green is nice? He is. Just not sure if he will become perennial. I mean, we have given him plenty of play time, what has he proved really?

We need a stud, and we need him fast.

how is garnett overrated. he needs another star to get to the top but he's a guaranteed double double a night and 1st team all nba defense wise. the only downside about him is that he's getting old

I do not think Green will ever become a great starter, but off the bench can create lots of problems for certain teams. I would rather see them take a shot with the 5 pick, keep Jefferson, and let someone else have Garnett. I know Celtic draft picks have been busts, but I really liked watching the Celts in the second half of last season.

I believe this is a good year for the Celts to roll the dice on the 5 pick(Brewer for sure), and just stick it out with the rebuilding plan. I do not believe Garnett would bring them as much as some people think, and would just cost too much. I know all about Garnett's stats, but I have never looked at him as a good fit with certain clubs, the Celts being one of those teams.

well if MN did this they would instantly have the worst collective starting 5 players in the league. But in a couple years who knows...they would have a decent bench and I suppose you never know what the two first round draft picks could turn into plus another lottery pick over the next couple years....

Might be worth it, Garnett has done all he can do here and the team as of now is not even close to a playoff team...

It is basically trading Yi Juanlin/Corey Brewer and Jefferson for KG. Look at it in that sense.

garnett and Pierce can get that team to or close to the eastern conference finals.

Wolves getting the better end IMO. Garnett wants out and to get that much potential is ridiculous.

Seems like a decent trade for both teams - the Eastern Conference is just so bad you have to think the Celtics become a factor - I just don't get why the Cavs aren't trying to do something - James likes to dish and Garnett would be a player who could finish down low - a little better than the stiffs they currently have - why not Gooden and Z for Garnett and/or Gibson.

The Cavs have no package of players or picks that could be equal for Garnett.
Gooden is a chronic underachiever and Z is old and stiff. Gibson is a 6th man/spot starter as well.
Compared to the Celtics package, the Cavs can't compete.

Agree the celts offer is much better I would not make the Gooden and Gibson deal for Garnett either.

It would be fun to see Lebron and Garnett play together but it aint happening.

I think the Bulls making a play for Garnett makes much more sense than Boston. Boston is far from a lock to make the playoffs with Garnett.
