<bytag>NBCSports.com staff report</bytag>Posted: Jun.18, 2007, 11:46 am EDTThe Baltimore Orioles fired manager Sam Perlozzo, according to a report by The Chicago Sun-Times.The firing comes just over two months into his second season leading the team. He compiled a 122-164 record since taking over the club following Lee Mazzilli's firing in August 2005. Bullpen coach Dave Trembley has reportedly been named interim manager while the team begins it search for a permanent skipper. However, according to ESPN.com's Buster Olney, that search might not take long, as the team is reportedly attempting to set up a meeting with former Florida Marlins manager and current New York Yankees broadcaster Joe Girardi. Olney also reported that the team hired ex-Cubs president Andy McPhail as the team's chief operations officer.Baltimore is currently in last place in the A.L. East with a 29-40 record and are in the throes of an eight-game losing streak. The team was 27-27 heading into May but has stumbled to a 2-13 record thus far in June.
Cub fans wish you luck, you'll need it. Good news is he will not be in Baltimore long as he will be the next commissioner.
