I placed some daily double wagers tonight at Mountaineer Park. About 10 Minutes before the first race went off I checked the double probables and found that 2 of my horses in the second race were already scratched which should be an automatic refund.

After my bet was graded as a loss I sent them emails inquiring why I didn't receive a refund for the two scratches. I was told that I wouldn't be because my first leg was a loser. I would only receive a refund if I had the first race winner - This would be a free roll for the book, I get a refund if my $20 horse wins or nothing if he loses. In 20 years of betting horses live and off-shore I have never heard of such an unfair rule.

There were no consolation double payoffs which proves that my 2 scratches were clearly before the first leg went off. It is absolutely clear it is a refund situation. These were small wagers, but I am very dissapointed that they have such an unfair policy.

Have any horse bettors here heard of such a rule?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but if the same situation happened at the track, you would still lose.

Nope
If a scratch occurs before the first leg of the double goes off, it is a refund.

Here are the rules from BetJam, "For Pick 3 / 4 / 5 and Daily Double wagers when a horse is scratched in any leg, we follow the official payout results posted by the track. If the track offers a consolation payout, you will receive the post time favorite and that consolation payout. If the track does not offer such a payout, you can request a refund for Pick 3 / 4 / 5 and Daily Double wagers where the other selections in the wager were winners."

No winner in the 1st leg, no refund. Pretty clear.

My first question is this a printed rule at BJ? if it is then I hate to say it is your fault. If not posted contact them or have a Mod contact them

If thats there policy it is thievery. They are taking a free roll at the player. Basically, if that is there rule, If my horse wins, I get my refund back and if it loses, I get nothing. Do you see how unfair this is?

9A. For Pick 3 / 4 / 5 and Daily Double wagers when a horse is scratched in any leg, we follow the official payout results posted by the track. If the track offers a consolation payout, you will receive the post time favorite and that consolation payout. If the track does not offer such a payout, you can request a refund for Pick 3 / 4 / 5 and Daily Double wagers where the other selections in the wager were winners.
9B. Daily Double wagers will be refunded if there is a scratch in the first leg.
9C. For Daily Doubles, if a horse is scratched after the first leg, a consolation will be paid on that combo, as specified by track payouts.

Ya gotta read the rules beforehand. If you don't read em, you really have no room to talk afterward. I don't read em, don't get me wrong, but I won't complain about something that I didn't read either.

Although I do kinda see what you are saying about the possibility of a free shot for them, it's also not fair to refund a bet that you already lost.

Weird situation, but the rules are the rules.

According to equibase.com there wasn't a consolation early double payout. Hey, I'm all for you getting a refund, but according to the rules it won't happen. Keep in mind they aren't part of the mutual pool, so they could basically make their own rules. I play there and they are pretty fair. I wish they would raise the 600-1 pick 4 payoff max though.

I had not already lost the bet. This should have been no-action the minute the horse was scratched before the first leg had even gone off. If these horses were scratched after the first leg had gone off, obviously I would have no basis for a refund.

It is definetely my fault for not reading the rules, but I am pointing out how unfair they are.

One time I bet a pick 4 at Betonsports and it paid $1,800 for $2. Earlier in the day I called and the rep told me they pay full track odds. I was very clear in my question. I only got paid $150. The manager basically said too bad so sad, even though I received incorrect info from the rep. Before anyone starts saying I should have read the rules online, I didn't have a computer at the time. Live and learn.

betjamaica does have some shit rules in this case. And I love betjamaica!

At the track, his wager is refunded for the bets involving the 2 scratched horses. Let say he bet this wager

$10 DAILY DOUBLE 2,3/1,2,3,6 TOTAL WAGER = $80 for 8 total bets

Lets say that 1,2 are scratches before the first race. Then he would be due a $40 refund for the 4 bets involving the scratches and the other 4 bets are action

Jake, his part of the wager using those 2 horses needed to be refunded, but I guess not according to their rules.

It is a freeroll shot for the book according to the rules. Either they refund IFFFF the first race wins, or they steal the money if he loses

the betjam rules says he does get a refund

"For Pick 3 / 4 / 5 and Daily Double wagers when a horse is scratched in any leg, we follow the official payout results posted by the track

In this case there was what is called an early scratch, the official payout at the track would be a refund. (actually at the track there would be no way to even type in that wager as the horses would be removed form the betting menu, so officailly fromt he track its no action)

This was an early scratch.

I am not looking at the rules, but someone posted this sentence above

If the track does not offer such a payout, you can request a refund for Pick 3 / 4 / 5 and Daily Double wagers where the other selections in the wager were winners."

They say other selections are winners. Can you imagine having a pick 5 had a scratch?

Thanks guys
After 3 emails, they say they are going to look into it further and get back to me tomorrow. Honestly, it's only a few bucks so if I don't get it refunded it won't be the end of the world, but I just wanted to see if anybody had ever heard of such a rule. Again, I know it's my fault for not reading their rules beforehand.
